What determines which wpn/pictos gets leveled up?

Topic. Sometimes when you finish a fight, something increases level. What determines which gets leveled up?

For Pictos, I'm not talking about learning Lumina from Pictos after 4 battles and use points to equip the ability instead. I'm talking about accompanying stats on Pictos and the level of stat increase it gives. I want to level up the old useful ones like Empowering Attacks that get stuck at low level with almost no stat increase.

Weapons and pictos level up when you loot higher level versions of them.

The more you use an equipped Pictos in battles, it will level up and increase its stats. You can also receive higher level pictos from battle rewards or merchants.

When you loot that weapon/picto the one you have get leveled

I think open world enemies have preset weapons and pictos they upgrade the first time you fight them.

It's more of a replacement of an existing picto or a weapon if you find a stronger one or an enemy drop a higher level version.

No, that's not how it works.

I'll have a look at it. Maybe I am receiving Pictos from Battle rewards at higher levels than what I already have. That might caused a wrong impression.
