How grindy is it?
I wanna try turn-based RPGs but I'm always affraid of the grind, so never did.

How bad is it here, if any?

Compared to the countless JRPGs I've played since FF7, this game has almost no grind. IT's entirely optional. However, instead of grinding, it could be said you are expected to 'explore' heavily if you play on Expert difficulty.
On normal difficulty, I haven't had to grind at all. The main story paces itself in a way that you can't really fall behind.

Past Act I and 20 hours, intermediate difficulty setting, grind completely optional in my view. Once the game begins to open up, and it is not linear anymore, it is worth taking a gander around anyway.

No grinding needed
Grinding is a very subjective concept, doubly so for a game like this where if you're willing to work at better reaction times, you can really get by with a minimal level. That said, I'm in the endgame, and I've never grinded anything. However, yeah, sorry if this sounds pompous but it's the only way to say it, I'm very experienced with all rpg types.

I beat the game around level 50, which I never really went out of my way to grind, unless you count doing a good chunk of the side content grinding.
Didn't have to grind at all until i started tackling optional super bosses during late Act 3.

But the main story is balanced well enough to avoid any tedious grind, if you fight every enemy you find at least once, and get off track to explore the alternate routes, you should be fine.

Also, character level isn't even that important... what you'll want to keep an eye on is mostly:

-Weapon levels (and their skills/elements)
-Also, like Elden Ring, weapons scale with specific stats, so it's useless to put all your points in "might" if the weapon scales with Agility and Luck.
-Pictos and Luminas synergy (Make sure you use Pictos and lumnas that compement each other and your skills)
-Skills synergy (If you use a skill that gets bonus on burned enemies, makes sure you have someone who can apply burn before)

I haven't done a single minute of grinding in 33h, only trying to explore everything I can.

I did the first run without grinding and I reached Lv 92 (max is 99), in the NG+ I reached lv 99 without problem either and I still need to complete the story again

But I did alot of optional content, if you just do the main story, probabily you'll finish the game around lv 50

If you play on normal and avoid certain optional bosses, side content then you'll enjoy the game far more.

I forced myself to complete a high lvl area and now I'm so utterly op, on normal difficulty, that it kills the fun of the story fights.

But ofc grind, like fighting the same enemies over and over again to progress is not recommended, because it will turn the game into easy mode on normal diffiulty, as will exploring high lvl areas which are red and have a warning on them.

increased the difficulty to max now and story is still too easy, but this one optional region, frozen heart was breaking me for a while, so I could grind in this one and kill the fun for the story later on.

there are some really epic stunning visual boss fights in this game, highly recommended.

Not grindy at all IMO, explote and do some sidequests and dont rush the main quest and you'll be more than fine but you do have to place some thought in to your "build", abilities honestly gets quite cluttery at the later game.
I didn't grind at all until I only had the level 99 achievement left and that took me maybe 30 minutes.

I beat it without grinding, I got rekt by the penultimate boss, I wanted to stay blind and continue story so I switched to story mode and the game is debilitatingly easy in that mode. I B lined trough the last part of the game in story mode like a filthy casual and do not regret it.
