Best combat system
In regard to the previous topic where the guy said how atrocious the combat system here, such as no indicators, markers, yada yada yada I thought myself that there's need to be a topic for possible person who'd come here to find if the combat system is, so its sort of opposite point of view. I happen to have 15 hours here and I dont really understand why exactly they call it bad.

- First things first, they call it bad because the parry window is tiny and punishable. But excuse me, isnt it what parry is supposed to be? High risk, high reward? You parry, you get extra AP and get counterattack that you can improve further more by adding additional damage to it. Even so, why do they focus on parry if there is a dodge with much wider window that is actually harder to ruin it, rather than do it?

- Their second argument is lack of any markers. Which I completely dont understand. The dev gave everything to the player to learn.
1. Visuals markers. The enemies glow, or the time freezes for micro second, or if its "ground" spell you can easily count it, or they specifically delay the attack so you can react to it. Hell, even magic here is well made, the enemies dont just cast it, they for example raise a hand, and when they throw a spell - I dont say projectile - they quickly lower that hand, which is an obvious marker to use a dodge. Generally, they best example of visual markers is that guy in corall area with two blades instead of his hands. They glow only when he is just about to attack. What kind of visual markers do they talk about, if what is in the game is more than enough?
2. Audio markers, but it might be personally me and im tripping, but right before attack I hear a lot of enemies do the sigh, or some sort of roar, or scream, or whatever. Even without looking it I can say if the enemy is attacking or not.
3. Not only that, there is a text marker that tells what to do next. "Enemy attacks slowly" says to you that the enemy is going to attack once and you better parry it, to get all benefits. "The enemy does fierce combo" says that enemy is going to perform numerous attacks and you better dodge.

The dev literally grabs your hand and guides you throughout the game. "I gave you everything for you to learn my game. Dont parry multiple attacks at first, dodge them, learn the animation, learn the number of attacks and then try to parry them. Step by step, you can parry first, dodge the other. Then parry both, dodge the third one. Then parry everything, getting yourself AP and counterattack. Oh, you couldnt do it even that way? You died trying? Well, dont you worry my friend, the checkpoint IS RIGHT BEFORE THE ENCOUNTER! So learn, untill you get it!" - this is what the game is.

- The last argument of theirs is QTE being not good, which I partially can agree. But hear my own reason why I dont like it, later. They say its bad because... Why, it stops the attack? Well yes, but you dont actually have to do it ideally, on yellow part. Just hit the button once you see it and you are good to go. But my personal issue is that I always miss it on Lune. You know why? I absolutely love her animations of casting spells. The Landslide spell, the fireball spell, the earthquake spell. I simply like watching her doing her mumbo jumbo, swinging her arms and feet. So I tend to miss QTEs casting them, because I watch Lune instead of focusing on screen xD

But after all, the game is perfectly balanced. The dev did tremendous job to make it comfortable to learn, quite difficult on boss encounters and not a cake walk on regular enemies encounters. The only thing this game wants of you is TO LEARN. You dont lose anything upon death, you dont even lose time, as I said, if you die you respawn at the very place you died. No matter what you do, you lose nothing. But unfortunately, The Gaming Community 2025 genuinely ask "Why on earth the game that 70% of the time relies on parry, wants me to parry?:(". So they better use mods that make parry window x10 bigger rather than do the most simple thing - play the game....

The combat system is genuinely fun, and mastering enemy patterns to dodge or parry effectively is incredibly rewarding and satisfying. The people who complain are simply bad players — they're used to modern games full of hand-holding and accessibility.

I'm 60 hours in and I engage in avoidable fights, just for the fun of it.
And I refunded EldenRing because I hated the parry/dodge mechanic... To say how bad I am at it.

This is the best turn based system we had since more than a decade.
Maybe screen monitor is to small but I don't think it's that easy. May seem like it now but different with larger bosses and fast multi attacks with delays in between. They can get in some really crazy attacks. Even if have some motion or glowing indicators. Hard to spot them right off the bat in the heat of the moment.
I like it though regardless, I like the battle system concept. Been playing on normal and feels challenging and rewarding.

Heh, I agree. For me it's thermal transfer - not sure I'll ever take it out of her kit, as I love that final spin and casual swipe she does with her hand at the end of the animation.

Two of my favorite combat systems in RPGS ever were in Shadow Hearts 2 and Lost Odyssey - and this game is kind of a blend of the two.

It's a good combat system. People should be more patient with the game and with themselves.
Once I figured out you have to count in the time of your own animation when you are timing them, it became so much more fun. I still mess up three out of then, but I do actually enjoy it.
Anyone who says it's bad is the bad.

People that decry about modern audience are the modern audience themselves. They cannot grasp the concept of mastering game mechanics anymore
