Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Enemy names in-game
Is there a way to view the names of enemies/monsters that you've fought? Outside of Chromatic fights, or boss fights, I haven't been able to see the actual name of the enemy unless they initiate an attack. I assumed this would have been something related to free-aim, but even aiming at an enemy doesn't tell you the name.

Unless this is a later feature (I'm in Act 2, and I'm about to fight my first Axon), like for the journal or something. I haven't found any kind of "bestiary" in-game, and I've been wanting to avoid spoilers so looking that up has proven very difficult.

I second this, I find it baffling how newer games specially like Clair Obscur with a tons of enemy and unique skills and elements don't have bestiary.
do we need to memorize all the enemies weakness and resistance? also it's harder to complete Monoco's skill set because I don't know which enemy I'm missing.

I hope devs would listen to their fans request and suggestion to improve their game.

PS. also add autoplay dialogue
It would also be cool if the game added a bestiary to know vulnerabilities, HP, speed, drop, etc.
So, the most consistent way to see names is to wait for them to attack. But yes, it would be nice to see their name when you are selecting them for an attack.
I honestly think this would take away from the game's general feel of mystique, exploration and danger.

I can certainly see how that would be the case. But I would also say that a feature like this would serve well, if implemented in Act 3 as an addition to the journal/inventory screen.

It would be nice to have a bestiary, but I figure it's the same reason that we don't have a mini-map, or map of the area. For story continuity. No other expedition made it back to Lumiere with the knowledge they gained and our journey wasn't to fight monsters, but to stop the Paintress. It would take away from the year our characters have left, as well as deter their mission, if they recorded everything they fought.

Or, our party would notice they've fought the same enemy twice already and maybe mention "We've fought these before.... use ice and watch for its 4-part attack"... or, since every expedition somewhat expects to fail and the idea is just to make things a bit easier on the next group, they absolutely WOULD record things like that in a bestiary for.... you know... those who come after
yeah is odd, when cycling through selected enemies should have shown there names.
I hope this gets added. Or at least, provide an option to add it. Kinda weird that the names only pop up when they attack

I can see that. Maybe Gustave and Maelle did it in the journal. It does say that they write about all the monsters that they faced. I did read that the devs are adding a bestiary, so that's cool.

With how much emphasis is on journals in the game, I was surprised to find no quest tracking/bestiary journal of our own. It just sits in your inventory as a key item and that's basically it.

The closest thing we have is Monoco's skill tree, but having to defeat an enemy with a specific party member for a thumbnail and name is a bit of a workaround.

Meh, so long as its not forced onto the player (say they do it like in Persona where you ZL an enemy to see strengths/weaknesses you already discovered later), then IMO it doesnt take anything away.

Yeah this is absolutely missing imo. I don't mind there being no nametag above everything you fight or enemy list, but the fact there's nothing like a bestiary to log the enemies is a little annoying.
Especially when elemental weaknesses/resistances/immunities.

It could've been an added thing for journals too, where they can add entries you might not have yet.
i really miss a bestiary ...
I agree. It is a shame that a game as dripping with aesthetic as Clair Obscur is doesn't always show you the enemy names. It would really serve to emphasise the design of each enemy imo. There are so many cool enemies in this game, but without showing the names they don't feel complete to me. I like having a name to a face, I guess.

That being said, I love this game so far. Showing enemy names and having a bestiary are simply ways of making this already fantastic game even better. I hope the developers read through the discussion board and take this topic into consideration.
