I ended making a build with him that is entirely relying on free aim attacks that apply marking. Helps a lot and it deals crazy damage with some crit pictos.
My suggestion in the meanwhile is to dump everything into Maelle and make it so she can easily take on enemies by herself without the rest of the party.
Then you just spam overcharge for 9999 damage.
But yeah as someone has said before Act 2 Gustave is really something else. He has a skilled called Defiant strike which hits twice and can easily do two 9999s. Best part? Doesn't even cost any AP just 30% health. Then there's a Picto that heals most of your health once something dies which perfect since this skill just one shots mobs.
Every character can be OP with the right combination of pictos. It just requires a bit of theory crafting. I sat down one morning and spent 2 hours building my team up
But he does get a glow up in act 2, pretty much redefines his character.
Also, Lune can apply burn for him, which together with the picto/lumina that increases crit chance on burning targets boosts his count by a lot :)
But as for Maelle, she doesn't do that much damage yet, but I like how she uses the debuffs
For example, get extra turn if you hit enemy with weakening debuff, get twice as much damage if your target marked, stay in virtuoso stance if you hit a target that is burning, etc.
