how is maelle a viable tank?
giv me some inspiration so i mite consider buildin her that way.

is it as simple as dump pts into health n defense?

Check some of her skills and weapons. I am not an expert on her yet but one of her stances reduces damage by 50%, she can give everyone shell, and she can take everyone's damage instead. And this is before you get all the crazy Pictos.
You don't need a tank.

Most dangerous attacks are AOE anyway, since it can wipe your entire team and you won't be able to revive. She won't protect you from this kind of wipe.

Just learn the patterns, eventually you will get good at dodging and parrying.

She has a weapon that puts a shield each time she goes in Offensive Stance, you can build quite alot of shields in that way and well you can survive alot of hits even if you go full glass cannon
Yes, it performs a tank role in my team. Absolutely. Somehow it was easy to upgrade her health and defense. And she's equipped with pictos which also give her nice abilities. I'd say many times attacks which might kill everyone - she can withstand 2 more of those.
Duenum weapon on her plus Egide skill -> Egide will put her in defensive stance and redirect all attacks on allies to her instead. Duenum weapon makes it so every AP you gain in defensive stance also gives AP to your allies.
This means that since all attacks are going to you, you can reduce all hits taken by 50% because of defensive stance (throw in defensive mode picto there too for 30% more), and if you instead parry, every hit you parry gives the entire party 1 AP. Throw a Shell in there as well and she'll take even less.

With this you can let other party members use riskier strats like being low hp for berserker slash or certain pictos, Steeled Strike, Lune's Fire Rage, etc. If you can throw some shields on them for group attacks, your team will be super tanky
Shield Maelle is Unkillable vs any creature that spams shields.
She gains surprisingly high defence from DEF stats. Her defensive stance cut damage by half. She can steal shields from enemies with a certain weapon. With some extra buffs like shell and some good lumina perks she can be close to unkillable. She can heal from base attacks and parry and revive and heal others with potions.
dam i think i mite try this stuff out n try to make her a tank. it mite make me enjoy verso gameplay. i generally dont like glass cannon/dark souls rtsr style gameplay, but if maelle can use "cover" n live long enuff to be worthwhile, then i mite try it out

she can become a TANK/AP battery. Use her weapon that shares AP when she gains in defensive mode. Use picto that gives her AP when she gets hit. Use the skill that guards everyone and tanks their dmg for single hits and also that other skill which generates AP while staying in stance. This makes it so you can keep her in defensive stance and generating AP for your team.

Note this won't prevent aoe hits from hurting your team.

Don't make a tank, it's a waste of time. Half of these bosses will one tap you or damn near one tap you making the purpose of a tank obsolete. There's pictos that provide self revive and it's much better to build glass canons than it is to build beefy characters. Simon a hidden boss quite literally strips all of your character's HP down to 1 and makes them all one shot for the entire duration of the fight. Renoir's combinations will delete your hp faster than you can tank it and the Paintress is in a similar position. In Sirene you get cursed which forces death without regard to what you can do and bosses like Golgra will delete your hp in a combination anyways. < List of bosses who make your hp irrelevant.
So for standard fights Tanking can work but the optional or harder bosses negate tanking. Shields can only take you so far, but you can make counter-attack builds with Maelle and have her block for her teammates as to not have to put counter-attack pictos on other characters, but she can only block for 1 teammate per turn and a lot of mobs and bosses have AoE attacks so counter-attacking with everyone is what happens when you land every parry for them.

Overall, Maelle excels better at just abusing the Virtruoso Damage buff to do loads of damage. Sciel as well can be made into a DPS power house (long as the enemy isn't immune/resistant to dark damage) followed by Verso. While it's still possible to beat everything with Monoco and Lune, their builds don't get as OP as the others.
