Anyone who says they dislike him is a heartless MFER. i dont know how the developers created such a great personality for a character but i love him

The whole world is mastercraft. Esquie is adorable and the fact he's so kind, innocent and like a gigantic cuddly toy compared to the sadness and despair of the world add a lot to he's personality.

When you finish the game, if you didn't already, you find that the world is even more coherent than you first felt.

Esquie is in fact a cuddly toy.

I thought the juxtaposition of his kindness and innocence paired with his advice leading to the death of the remnants of another expedition (from the expedition log found near his nest) to be rather chilling and powerful, though the voice log had a more comedic tone. That's not a slight on Esquie - how was he to know the mushrooms would be deadly to non-immortal beings? He acted in good faith, as he always does. It was a good reminder how alien to typical human experiences the paintress's realm is.
