Quick tip for forcing a save
So one of the criticisms about this game is that you can't restart battles and you have to run up to a fight where you lost. If you change a weapon or pictos before a fight, the game will save. If you do this before a hard fight (i.e. Chromatic enemies), you will spawn right before the fight if you die instead of having to run up to them again.

I'm reasonably sure that quitting to main menu saves the game. So you can do it that way.

i did this too. its not always consistent though. sometimes you have to fiddle with more things for it to save. idk why

Yeah noticed that too, almost thought it was a sure way to save anytime before side boss encounter.
It's not a sure thing, running between pathways in the larger zones can trigger saves as well. I've been doing this after I get a Petank locked in the magnet before I engage him so I don't have to herd round metal chickens if something goes wrong.

If you change anything and then leave the menu it always save. At least for me.

Restart would be much better. No loading screen and skip cutscene.

Not always, i tested it pretty thoroughly on the petank in Serine because I couldn't figure out it's gimmick and it kept over writing the top save after it flees so I was trying to get double or triple saved so I could load while it's trapped already. It works more often than not but can be weird if you try to get a couple saves in a row.

Of course. But for now, this is probably the next best thing.
