SPOILERS - Just finished the game, bawled my eyes out.
I chose the Verso ending like many people I guess, man I haven't cried since a long time in my life but this game managed to make me cry. It's really harsh but in life it's better to accept harsh reality and move on with than locking oneself into a fantasy. I pre-ordered the game and my only regret is that I haven't purchased the deluxe... it's not only a game : it's really a work of art, a masterpiece. Man ♥♥♥♥ I feel bad, sorry for the yapping but I needed to express myself. I wanna express so many things right now but just thanks to the devs for creating this work of art.

I am destroyed... It's been so long since a game has hitted me right in the feels me like this :(
I actually did the ending where you fight as Maelle and it wasn't even remotely close as sad, but I knew that I don't want to go against the people I spent my whole journey with you know.

I don't really understand this ending that much, especially that last Maelle's look.

I have the impression that it's mostly a different perception of how to deal with grief. By choosing Maelle's ending, you're refusing to accept grief and you're locking yourself into this canvas to avoid facing the truth. It's also very sad but the scene is less emotional

From my theory, Maelle's last look could perhaps mean that reality will always catch up with you, even in your comfort, if that makes sense!
Maelle ending is such a sad, bad ending route, in that the cycle continues and she never was able to ever face the the saying of "When one falls, we continue". That last look you saw was the aliment that plagued both the parents when they spent too long with their power, she's basically becoming what Verso has feared.

Also subjugating painted Verso to the torment of being forced to live watching his sister slowly decay and die. Also preventing Verso's soul from stopping to paint and rest, even though they too are tired of painting. I fear that Maelle might've even painted over some of the cast if not only partially restored some of her dead friends, as she is not only less skilled at painting but also might only see the surface level of a person. Reminder that either ending you pick the painted world will still die.

Picking Maelle's path is a dead ending while picking Verso's path is a love letter to her in that he believes that in time she will find hope past the grief.

Your title is actually somewhat of a spoiler. I finished the game ...my comments better than indicating something bad happens at the end.

I have an idea that both endings are good endings, but one is good for the real world outside the canvas and the other is good for the world inside the canvas. That you either decide to save everyone imaginary or just move on in the real life and both are good in their own ways.

Both are not good endings but not bad endings at the same time, that's weird but it hits a lot... damn...
