Act 1 Ending - I am absolutely stunned and disappointed. - Massive Spoilers
[/spoiler] I literally could not believe anything about that entire sequence. I feel so udderly betrayed. We connect with the main character, enjoy his relationships with the party, and he dies for really no narrative reason other than to replace him with a much lamer clone of him. I mean why does he even die... like he dies and then the guy stops fighting literally 15 seconds later. I am just mind blown on how cringe this is. I cant even bring myself to keep playing as this guy. The idea of romancing the woman with this, honestly creepshow. I understand that I have read some other people saying Maelle is the real main character, but like. No, she isn't. Not up to this point, and now im left the woods with no character in the party i actually care about. I honestly have 0 idea how to keep playing. Considering not going forward, which sucks because this game was 10/10 before this point. If this came up in a design meeting I would laugh in the person's face who said this. This was a disgusting choice by the developers.

Lol oh boo hoo - it's a powerful moment that encapsulates the horror of the situation the team are in. If you haven't bonded with Maelle at least already I don't know what to tell you.

Buddy should keep playing to learn the story

I felt the same at first but my suggestion is keep playing. You won't be dissapointed. The story is a masterpiece.

Actually i felt like Gustave was already know in the group, they know each others and don't need to talk about their paste.
With Verso, you learn with him about your team, their past etc... so in the end the sacrifice of the main character made the story lives again
Only a monster doesn't like Esquie.
If anything we should get way more of this in games and movies. I think it was a fantastic move to make us feel that in the moment. You feel frustrated - sad - angry - confused or whatever ... guess what - That's what you should feel. That's the whole point. That puts us, as the players, way more into the shoes of the other characters. It is supposed to "suck", because guess what ... losing a familty member and close friend in front of your eyes does indeed suck. You are supposed to emphasize with them, and sometimes that means sad emotions.
It is definitely a bit weird choice by the devs because Gustave was unique with very interesting power, but I don't think his power would be good in the endgame so... idk, it was too soon imo, but I don't really mind it as much.
'When one falls, we continue. Not if, when. When one falls'

Although it's a very shocking twist (and later explained why it even happened to begin with), don't give up. The story just keeps getting better and better, it's incredible.

T_T ~ boo hoo kid. If you can't handle that, you should probably uninstall - the story in this game is VERY French, and that's just a taste of what's to come.

Gustave is the literal and proverbial "false protagonist" a plot device that is used every now and then. Most famous more recent example is Ned Stark in Game of Thrones.

I do now want to spoil anything, but even before Gustave dies the game hands out quite a few hints that Gustave is NOT the main character and that the story is actually about someone else entirely.

So Gustave is, ultimately, not essential to the actual story of the game.

Keep going. It will all make perfect sense.
You're so upset that you stopped playing immediately but somehow think you know who Verso is or anything about what happened in that scene? Okay. lol

Everything that happens in Act 1 reinforces the narrative Maelle wants to pursue in the endgame, so it does have meaning. He was never the protagonist of this story, just another motivational anchor for Maelle.

You got upset because you lost theain character for his loving relationship with Maelle as a father/brother and for someone who believed in the mission. I got upset because I lost that cool overcharge move I had built my party around. We are not the same.

Joking aside, you are upset because you lost a piece of yourself, your character, the one you can't get out of your team (great design choice btw) for some apparently senseless reason. Well, that is what the other characters are feeling too. Lost, hopeless, confused, questioning why this is happening. The game really succeeded in putting you in the shoes of these characters.

This is the best response I have seen. I totally am feeling frustrated sad angry and confused, but it is not quite making me want to keep playing the video game. Hopefully I can find some motivation to keep going.

This is sad energy from a fellow enjoyer of the game.
