Not having a mini-map is poor QOL
yes yes. git gud. but im a casual player and i have zero sense of direction. spent 3 hours wandering round flying waters. beat the big guy and the optional boss. the combat is great and the game is beautiful but i wont be playing further as its too difficult to navigate. hope the devs read this and think about ALL players of their game not just dude-bros with 500 hours in Elden Ring. Genuinely super disappointing.

It's less about the git gud and more about the secrets hidden in the maps. Yes it's annoying but they mostly kept level design fairly simple to account for this. There's a few annoying areas but nothing that some decent spacial memory can't fix.
I really wish they'd add one, as I am so lost any time I open the game up again.

You can still have a "sense of discovery" without making things feel so overwhelmingly confusing. A mini-map doesn't have to automatically reveal an entire area. It can just illuminate areas you've already been to.

I'm so tired of walking in circles, back tracking & seeing so many similar paths clouded by the dreamlike environments to where I'm not avoiding going off the beaten path just so I stop wasting time & getting lost. I end up going back to the same flag sites to replenish health & items so many times, which then respawns enemies, which then means I have to fight them all over again when I accidentally go somewhere I already went.

That part isn't fun. This doesn't make me feel accomplished or rewarded when I find something new anymore. I just want to know I'm making progress instead of wandering in the dark. I love this game, but I'm starting to find myself going longer & longer between play sessions since I'm dreading spending several hours wasting time again.

Is it possible someone could mod this into the game? I'm a huge JRPG fan. I love exploration. I spend hours going down every path I can find. But in this game, I'm doing the opposite just to stop the frustration.

You don't really need minimap if you've spent enough time with the game. Most of the stuff are pretty straightforward at best. Just explore.

Maps aren't QoL
a mini-map would be just a bandaid fix to the fact that the maps don't have enough visual indicators like lighting and such to lead the player on where to go.

doesn't help that it gets so excessively bright the further you get into the game, and the layouts become increasingly alien and absurd
Sounds like you guys need some yellow paint

I like the way this game handles that btw. Climbable ledges are highlighted in a subtle way, not making the field look like a construction site.

And minimaps aren't qol. The devs aren't new to games, I'd say it was deliberate to not have them. Personally, I feel it encourages me to observe my surroundings more and a welcome change of pace.

I dont think it's that bad BUT I would like those climbing things to be more visible. The only place where I genuinely had some difficulty in navigation was Yellow Harvest. Everything was white and abstract.

Requesting a mini map isn’t a “git gud” moment.

But I (personally) love the lack of UI.

Do I get lost? Yeah sometimes I do get turned around. Does it force me to check every nook and cranny? Hell yes.

This is an easy example. I love RE but the yellow paint everywhere is cringe and stupid IMO. It’s good to not have your hand held all the time.

I'm just saying, literally the game is called Expedition 33,
if you had a map you wouldn't be an expedition anymore.
I get being frustrated by the lack of a minimap, but the maps are pretty straight forward and relatively linear. You don't need to be a dudebro with 500 hours in elden ring to not get lost.
I notice that the main paths tend to have lamps, more ambient lighting or are wider than the side paths. They draw your attention more.

Yeah, exactly, main paths are pretty much always surrounded by lamps. You just need to look up a little bit to see them sometimes.

This is what happens when you have ¨tiktok brain syndrome¨ and can't remember what you did in the past 5 minutes. The maps are designed to be straight forward and even if you get lost seraching the secret stuff, the maps will always return you to the main path.
