So I get to spam burn ticks, debuffs, break status and still deal millions of damage. And unlike Maelle it's not a one and done kind of scenario. You can just clear the field of enemies by dividing up your attacks between enemies.
Beat the thingy floating in the ocean by the lighthouse snake in the sky and you'll get the "cheater" Picto which doubles your turn. I used Dualiso for a long, long time until I was able to beat that boss. Then every sword became a Dualiso lol.
Getting 50 shots in is mostly because of double turn and a chance to restore 1 AP on a free aim shot, AP on attacking a Marked target once per turn, etc.
It gets completely silly. Especially if you get the Picto that lets your free aim attacks break. Once you get close to getting it all set up Contorso just goes off, it looks like you're calling down the Elden Ring tree on enemies with how permanent that Contorso lightning strike is.
The other ones are just there to support and to provide some explosion and DOT damage if they die :D
I'm not even sure why Maelle is so op. She has over 6.000hp while the others have around 1400 and 2700 hp, and I did not even invest much in her vitality stat. At some point I just realized she was always the last one standing, so she got all the lumina points.
She now applies double the burn stats, has all the damage multiplyers etc. against burning targets and self-heals on parry, counter, kill etc. She also gets 3AP on kill.
And then I have this 3AP and 9AP fire ability to just add lots and lots of burn stats and this one ability that increases fire damage for 2 rounds.
She rarely dies, does up to 100K dot damage sometimes and her level 2 limit thingy can revice the entire party and add even more burn dots.
I tried to play around with other characters but I never managed to get them nearly as strong as her. As long as the enemy has no shields she basically just melts through everything. And for enemies with shields I always have one ability that just adds lots and lots of attacks.
I tried to make Lune into another fire demon but she just lacks the health to be viable. She is usually the first who dies in a fight, often from just one attack. If she gets a big cast out, she melts enemies even faster than Maelle.. but she rarely gets the chance.
Then I have Verso in my group. Not sure why though. I found his ability a bit lackluster so far. Sacrifizing 30% health to do 2 big damage hits and having a heal when attacking burning targets is cool and all, but damage wise he needs like 10 turns to accomplish what Maelle accomplishs in just 3.. and once turn 3 happened her damage just goes higher and higher, the longer the fight goes on.
Just wait until you get her 2 special attacks. One does insanely high single target void damage. It's usually enough to one shot enemies with the right multipliers and another one which applies some burn but more importantly - deals additional damage based on how many burn stacks the enemy has. It's fun to set up but not really worth it unless you go for Maelee's burn sword or have someone else to help stack up those burns to high hell and back.
Also using Lune specced to healing Maelle whenever she needs it while also debuffing if she doesn't, and Verso focused entirely on attacking (Spamming free shots to build rank and eventually pulling off back to back 9999 Follow Ups, probably swap to using Overload when I get enough skill points). I did manage to beat Dualliste without dodging most of its moves on Expert. Goes really hard, but I don't know how long it'll fare for the rest of the game.
Afterwards, you can then spam Lune's level 3 gradient every turn. If you're a cheater, you can level 3 gradient into elemental genesis every turn.
Also I'm assuming we're not talking about super busted builds like Maelle doing a trillion damage.
The downside is she doesn't get as much xp as the other party members because of the penalty on death (*unless* you also get the lumina that gives 50% HP on kill or revive her if the fight doesn't end immediately lol), but it doesn't matter because most things you walk into die in the first second. And if they don't then you combo this with the +4AP to team members on death lumina and your other two members can either pop their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 9AP attacks to finish the match off, or revive Sciel to inevitably die *again*. Don't use it for big boss fights tho since they're scripted or are immensely tanky (bring in maelle instead and abuse everything about virtuous stance or the weapon that stacks self-burn). I haven't yet seen if it's possible to break the 9999 per hit limit but I suspect there is a picto out there that can.
Rush? Powerful? Shell? Who cares lol. The combat system is a hilarious mix of Path of Exile and whatever it was called in FFXII and it's brilliant.
