Strength of Story and Narration (No Spoilers)
I terms of the of story and narration, and how the game is able to reach to a wide audience and make impact on players feelings,

What other games does reach this level of immersion in narration and ability to captivate players interests and feelings?

Kind of a silly question, because people's grasp on things differs from player to player. You can see in this forum alone "I don't get the story." thread, that this game was confusing to others, despite it being pretty streamlined if you actually paid attention. The curse of RPG's is it is a lot of listening/reading to get the gist of what is going on and sometimes, people just don't pay attention.
That's a good point, for me, I don't like when games makes "ambiguous" story ending, where it actually starts very interesting and then things get so nonsense or very personal interpretation rather than any meaningful ending, all of this with the excuse of "twists" or lore, personally for me this is a negative thing usually.

And actually your answer shows that this question is not really "silly", and the fact that there's a thread "I don't get the story" does not change that the story is captivating in the beginning (I have just finished Act 1), the fact that it may end up unclear or ambiguous is worrisome in my opinion, still the game was able to get the mainstream attention, if the ending wasn't as good as the beginning, that can be disappointing to many,

I didn't want to see "I don't get the story" post because it seems to contain spoilers, so I wanted to talk about the story without any spoilers,

A story having ambiguous meaning made me think of Little Nightmare, as much as I love the game and its interesting story, I would rather tell me that cows can fly and human become cats in another life- in your story- rather than making it an ambiguous "twist"

So I will see how Expedition 33 story will be for me, hopefully a more meaningful ending even if harsh, which I don't to know as to keep this post spoiler free as well

I could think of a few games that had some moments where the game achieved this, but not to the extend Expedition 33 does it. I can't think of any game that did this for me personally to this extend like ever.

- The Witcher 3
- The Last of Us
- Mass Effect 1-3
- Telltales The Walking Dead
- Life is Strange 1
- Final Fantasy 7 / 8 / 9 / 10

Those were the games that managed me occasionally to really feel for the characters involved, some of them even made me take things that happened to certain characters personally :D

But none of them come even close to Expedition 33 when it comes to this topic. This game has one of those stories that you will probably still remember 20 years from now.
