Oh good, "jrpg" seems to be a lie people are spreading then.
AND THIS GAME HAS LESS LINE AND EVERYTHING IS VOICED ACTED.
OMG GAME BAD NOT REAL JRPG.
Jester awards pls.
It's not a JRPG though. It's an action rpg that just happen to lean in a lot into some JRPG areas. But yeah, the QTE's can be a bit of a bother. I'm not a fan of QTE's myself because I usually fail QTE's in games. But I managed to finish this game and fought some of the tougher optional bosses as well.
In the end I found it kinda rewarding to learn how to read attack patterns and react accordingly. I'm not gonna lie, some enemies took 3-10 attempts to beat, but it felt really good when it clicked and I was just able to parry and counter almost every attack thrown at me.
I kinda enjoyed that. There were only a few enemy encounters where I found that the attack patterns were not readable enough to deal with them properly. There were some enemies I never managed to parry or dodge. These ones I had to brute-force into oblivion, with my "everyone explodes when dead and then just resurrects"-builds :D
It's not a combat system for everyone though. I managed to get used to it and learned to love this game. But I can see that the ccombat system brings with it a barrier that will lock lots and lots of people out of this game, which is kinda sad.. because I think these devs deserve lots and lots of game sales for this one.
30 devs did what is "the impossible" according to the AAA industry and it's hundrets or even tousands of developers each project. Combat system aside.. this right here is what games once were, what they always have been supposed to be. I hope this game does so well that it sends a shockwave through the industry, causing the AAA industry to re-consider their approach to games development.
