how to explore the map? without "too much" spoiler please

Without going into spoilers, as you progress through the story, is there a way to return to older sections of the map to continue exploring? I'm making progress, and there are many areas I'd like to return to explore and defeat "super" bosses... but the map is very large and forces you to return to the dungeons, and short of some shortcuts, I don't see any way to travel "fast"?

yes you can always return to previous areas. even after beating the game re-loading the save still lets you access everywhere. however the only form of fast travel is between flags in the maps. the overworld movement speed only gets faster as you unlock flight

Yes, there are ways to return - both gained through the story, but also in the form of "shortcuts" you can open that create a bridge over mountains and such.

The trigger for thse bridges is a small tombstone looking thing with a glowing blue orb in the middle.
