I'm glad Clair Obscur committed to turn based
Clair Obscur knew what it wanted to be and committed to it, unlike a certain Final Fantasy series who tried to to appeal to all the ''normies'' destroying Final Fantasy's identity in the process.
Maybe bangers like Metaphor, BG3 and now Clair Obscur will finally wake Square Enix up.

That's a very normie take about FF games to begin with, at least very ignorant of the series and company history.

Experimenting new ideas and changing the formula to a degree has been very much part of Final Fantasy since FF7.

And ATB isn't exactly your traditional TB combat to begin with.

Squaresoft Created Final Fantasy. Enix created Dragon Quest.

After the merger Square Enix Had two very prominent JRPG titles and Dragon Quest was very traditional in its design. It would have been silly to keep two franchises just as Traditional Turn based RPGs as possible (again that's not even what FF was).

Dragon Quest had a very strong and loyal following In Japan.
Final Fantasy was very popular in the west, and they were already trying out new things each iteration at that point.

If you really want to whine about the identity of FF being lost, you should start demanding them to go back to how the series was before FF7. They could have Given FF10 a completely different title, replace the common cameos and no one would have even compared FF10 to final fantasy games.

And yet for some reason almost no one criticizes them for FF10 anymore.

I also like that FF experimented being trash lately.

That's what tend to happen when you experiment, hits and misses. Admittedly it has mostly been misses post PS2 era in the main series. A lot of people do seem to enjoy the FF7 remakes, well outside the insane Kingdom Hearts style additions Nomura insist on vomiting into the story.

Hopefully square is going to make good turn based games again, and I really enjoy the action turn based in 33, maybe they can expand or improve upon that, a final fantasy with the turn based gameplay like in 33 with the action stuff in it would be awesome, I'm sure they can somehow make it even better if they wanted to, they just need ppl with passion on it.

Yeah I was sad they didn't make the remakes turn based. Unfortunately for us turn based seems to be a smaller market.

I like turn based but also other combat variants. I'm fine with the combat in FF 16 but I didn't like it in FF 15. it depends on how well it is done.
