Maelle secret skill issue

I have an issue with unlocking “Gustave’s homage” skill. I know you get it for writing all the notes to Gustave’s diary, but after writing the note about entering to the monolith I still didn’t get it. My friend unlocked it even before entering, so what’s the issue? I used writing and hangout options every time I got them, and there are no more options after setting a camp now. Am I cooked until finishing NG+ then?

Erm, there are two sets of secret skill unlocks for maelle, I'm not sure the original poster was actually talking about the set you unlocked...

The first set is tied to talking to people at the camp and is linked to unlocking Moroco.

The second set which is the one you unlocked is spoiler territory unlock! The devs kinda messed up by showing those skills as ? on the skill tree when other characters do not have as many unknown skills!

Are we talking about 'Gustave's Homage', which is an 8-hits attack skill uses in combat, right?

I got it after Maelle wrote the diary in the camp, at the beginning of Act.3, as I said.

I'm on my second playthrough atm (restarted because I wasn't ready for NG+[yes, i now know you can reload your last few saves]).

On my first playthrough I unlocked Gustave's Homage before entering the monolith but this time around I didn't. I have no idea why or what changed but it was/is possible. I know it was for a fact because it was carrying me through Clair/Obscur fights.

Thanks for the answers. Seems like it is either random or I missed some notes in act 1. Or it was changed with patches. The skill actually opened for me after the start of act 3. I was scared I missed it because some articles said you won’t be able to write to the diary after act 2. But it was’t true - there are at least two more entries.

I can also confirm that I unlocked this skill before the monolith. I camped a lot out of the BG3 fear of missing conversations. So it hasn't been patched to be later, but I don't know what variables affect getting it.
