How does STARTING turn order work (on first strike)?
First strike is when you use the attack (r1) on the enemy before they run into you. Then, your team gets to go first.
It's a very important thing to have control over, yet Speed does not determine it.
Has anyone actually figured it out?
From my own testing, it appears the turn order will always stay the same until the party composition is changed. For example, you remove/add a char to party, or you first encounter Maelle. However, there doesn't seem to be any rules to this. I just seems like this shuffles it randomly. I've tested a bunch and found no patterns. If it truly is the case that it is random, that is horrible game design.
Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide.

I will note that if someone has the first strike skill equip they will go after your other characters for some reason.

Just run into the mobs to start combat, do not use the strike ability to start it, then the character with the skill equipped will always be the first in your group to play. I always have Lune go first with fire rage. Free fire aoe's every turn until she takes damage.

If you start combat with a succefull strike, it seems to nullify the skill.

It's determined by the order that your characters were added to your party. You can remove characters from your party and then add them again to change the order (ie. if you want to have character A, B, C in that order, then remove everyone but A from your party, then add B, then C).

In the case of first strike when your reserve party kicks in (in the event that your first party is wiped out), I think that's just random.

You haven't read that post carefully. Speed does not affect First Strike order. That post says nothing about first strike order; it's talking about a specific pictos.

This is not true, either. It happens sometimes that it will be ordered that way. Other times, not. So it looks like its random.

Was this ever determined? The going theory still seems to be how you add them to your party but that hasn’t worked for me.
