Woke or not woke... game is good :)!
I've seen a few debates starting about whether Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is "woke" or not, and honestly, I think we're missing the point. The game looks incredible so far — unique art style, stylish combat, and a fresh setting that stands out in the RPG crowd. If the story and characters hold up, this could be a real gem.

Whatever your stance on politics in games, let’s not forget to give credit where it’s due: good design is good design. Curious to hear what others think — gameplay first or does the tone/representation matter more to you?

Personally I think the game is mediocre, but considering this is the dev's first game, it's good first attempt.

As for woke, I do think it is woke, but at least they don't rub it in your face, so it doesn't get in the way of playing the game.

To go into details why I think the game is mediocre, most of it is due to the story and characters. This is similar to FFXV, but the game tries to get unearned emotional reaction out of the players. This game does better job than FFXV, but still not too great.

I wrote it in another post, but it feels more like they decided they wanted certain emotion scene, and then tried to build a way to reach that scene, instead of just coming up with good story and let the event happen naturally.

A lot of scenes in the game simply feels forced.

As for gameplay, I generally do not like real time input requirement in turn based games. I think it ruins the strength turn based game and is distracting in terms of getting immersed as I miss most of the visuals that is happening on screen since I am looking at the button prompt.

Overall, it is entertaining, but very rough around the edges.
Reported for just another "woke" thread.

Did you ever read the post? I dont think so. Please read it before posting.
Even putting the word "woke" in your thread title will cause nothing but arguments....

For the real time element - technically you can avoid it, if you don't like it, just don't play on the hardest difficult and all should be fine :).
I think it gives interesting dynamic to the combat, where instead of just being another boring turn-based combat, it's actually more engaging.

Personally I really enjoy the game so far, though I'm only 2 hours in.
Story-wise it's really nice and interesting, but obviously can go astray.

Yeah I ended up turn on the auto option for the QTE. It is still distracting visually. Also I love turn based combat gameplay, so QTE only ruins it for me.

But that is expected. I was fully aware of what I was getting into when I purchased the game. However, I do it would've been better if they've fully committed to turn based gameplay. I think it's better to make full action game, or full turn based game instead of trying to do little bit of both and lose the strength of each genre. Kind of like what Dragon Age 2 ended up becoming.

As for the story, I think they've showed they can definitely present the story well. The visual design are done well, music is done well, cut scene direction are done well.

But the story itself was rather subpar in my book. Still that can be improved, and I hope they do better next time.

This company reminds me of Spiders Studio. Rough around the edges, but I see potential.

9 times out of 10, whenever anyone claims "X went woke!" X was already woke to begin with. "Star Trek went woke!" "X-Men went woke!" "Final Fantasy went woke!" etc. Yeah, we know, insert always_has_been_meme.jpg.

Yes, since they will eventually ruin it. The reason why we are in this predicament is exactly because people didn't care as long as the games were good. Freedom is not taken all at once it is taken piece by piece. So, yeah it matters, don't pay people that hate you and wanna ruin your hobby.

Well you have opposite agenda than woke ppl. I'm in the center and can accept both worlds.

You cannot be in the center since woke is extreme, you are then on the left. You can't agree with the extreme left (woke) and the right.

And yes I have an agenda it'a called common sense, that's what woke is trying to destroy.

Both are extreme, and all extremes are weird (woke is one extreme, you are the other extreme).
This game is not extreme though.
