I know this is an unpopular opinion but....
I don't care for there being no mini map....especially since I'll still just end up seeking help where to go. The "git gud" sentiments here just waste the time of gamers tbh. Not a single clue where to go in this underwater place....just gave an intact mine to a neutral nevron....and am aimlessly floating about now.

I like having no mini map, it makes sense in that game too

As much as I agree. There are a few areas in the game where it would have been extremely useful. Plenty of hidden items and optional paths that are easy to miss and are even harder to remember if you've already explored them.

The game likes to place light sources like lamps and torches on the path forward. Try checking for them if you're lost.

It's not about getting gud, maps are linear so the only things that a map would potentially reveal are hidden areas and secrets, which would be more of a downside than anything else ImO.

Sure you can get a bit lost here and there but it's generally for a few seconds to dozens of seconds when that happen, until you understand where to go again.

Having no mini map is "unusual" for this type of game, i agree.
But it is in line with the other influences this game borrows from souls-like games. (potions, upgrade materials, enemy respawns, dodge mechanics, etc.)
It takes some getting used to but after playing for ~15h i gotta say none of the areas are really that complicated. I miss it less and less as i go on.

God forbid we have to explore a little bit and immerse ourselves in the world they built and get lost sometimes. If you want to rush through the areas, just follow the flags. They generally point you in the right direction.
I've been plenty immersed in games that have a mini map though...just saying. In any case...almost immediately after making this thread I figured it out. But using that as some "badge of honor" is just silly.

Yeah no mini map sucks. Sure it's not that particularly difficult to figure it out but I'd appreciate not shoving my face on every crevice I'm exaggerating but you get the point. An example is the gestalt village. Lots of unnecessary double turn happened there.
