how much of a downer is the story (without spoilers please)?
honest question cause i am really interested in buying it.
I saw all the cool gameplay videos and was super impressed and hyped.
then i saw a video about the beginning of the game with the festival and the people dying which certainly set a tone for the game.

the thing is ,with all the dark souls/elden ring type like games i am really tired of the whole "everything is bleak and depressing and death" trope. its kind of overdone in my opinion. so i wanted to know (without spoilers if possible) if the whole game is just a pathway into depression or if it is just the beginning of the game?

It isn't a trope, the game has a depressing setting and story for a reason. The ending is just as sad as the start, maybe even sadder

The game is bleak. You're gonna get your heart stepped on a few times. It's 100% worth playing.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

If you don't ask any questions then the story is decent enough. If you ask any questions at all things fall apart very quickly. Hardly anything is explained, you are just expected to accept that is the way it is.

I played it right up to the end of Act 2. Nothing is explained about the zones, nothing is explained about the bosses you fight, nothing is explained about how different people have different powers. You go from one zone to the next because "we said so". Conversations you have don't matter, characters barely even remember those conversations, gameplay in hour 20 is the same as hour 1.

I won't spoil the story but it is pretty obvious what it is about for anyone paying even a little bit of attention.

LIterally everything was explained about zones , bosses and monsters.

As for people having different powers - it's a game , duh. And there should be this litte thing called gameplay.

Your path trought map also was clearly explained.

Gamplay of Dark Souls in hour 1 is the same as hour 20, same for BG3 or literally any other game. What kind of dumb nonsense is this ?

Im at end of game act 3 , I understand alot and could spoil most of it. Like most stories of this nature most is revealed near the end. They do explain mostly everything to me so far I havent rolled end credits yet so i expect more answers then, maybe you didnt pay attention mr edgelord?
The answer is yes

"The Paintress made it" isn't an explanation.

The gameplay for BG3 is certainly not the same at hour 20, not unless you have cheated to have unlocked everything immediately.

I am not even at the end of Act 2 and could spoil most of it, the story and all the "twists in it" are very obvious, the entire thing is basically the result of a family falling out

Congrats you display basic understanding of dialog in cutscenes given to the player. Do you enjoy acting like an assclown or is this a genetic trait? In case I'm not making myself clear here, the story isn't trying to be confusing or mysterious, you understand exactly what the game needs you to, when it reveals the info to you in a very straight forward style. The info on how the world works and came to be and who the monsters and others things that you mentioned earlier cannot be known until they tell you.
