Dodge is MUCH better than parry most of the time.
The game doesn't explain this well.
I fell into a trap of wrong believe that dodge is pointless when parry does the same plus does massive damage. So why would anybody dodge?

Because dodge is WAY easier and actually gives a chance to avoid an attack.
Parry should be used rarely on well known enemies when we already mastered the dodge timing. And usually only against a single move. Combos should be still dodged most of the time as missing a single parry in a combo won't give a counter attack. The math of risk/reward is way against us.

Agree.
One Miniboss you have to parry 8 attacks in row, one death slap etc. It is just satisfying.

As someone who refuses to dodge/block/parry in nearly every game that has existed, I for some reason decided to only ever parry right from the beginning. And I don't regret it one bit.
sometimes makes sense, but if you get to the end of the attack string and you got all "perfect" dodges you just wasted a nice riposte opportunity had you done it parry instead, and you can still get hit easily the dodge only helps if you are doing it too early a bit obviously doesnt help you for hitting it late

I wouldn't say better, parry has the advantage that you'll counterattack, but yes, Dodge has a far more forgiving window to time it and on long attacks, if you dodge to early, you can even do it again if the animation is finished before the hit comes.

By dodging instead of parrying you're actually drawing out the fight. You don't get AP from a dodge and your counter attack damage scales with the attack you would have received.

Playing on Expert... I'm not remotely good enough to parry all the time, so I do end up dodging about 90% of the time. I save parrying for the attacks that I know I can execute on because they're either single attacks or have an easy timing.

If you're struggling to parry, absolutely rely on dodging instead for most attacks :)

the only time I actually use dodge is when I really don't want to be hit by something, it's pretty rare, it's usually the status debuff attacks, but I 99% use parry over dodge, it's just way more rewarding if you are decent at it.

No

dodge : no dmg, back to neutral
parry : no dmg, counter enemy + restore AP

conclusion : parry is superior to dodge

I dont think ive parried anything since they taught it in tutorial and im on Act III almost done with the playthrough lol. Their are many many ways to get AP back without needing Parry.

I love how everyone says "you don't get AP when you dodge" when you can invest 1 solitary point into getting AP with every perfect dodge.
If you are able to consistently dodge an attack, it won't be a big deal to parry that attack as well. There's just a minor timing offset. But parrying provides you tons of AP on top of many possible parry skills.

It's not every. It's 1 per round vs 5 AP when parrying a 5hit combo combo.

It's not a trap, it's a pretty standard risk vs reward option. Parries not only give you counters and avoid all damage, they also give you AP. That is drastically better than just avoiding damage. The trade off is that they're more prone to failure, so if you're struggling or nearly dead, it might be better to dodge. Dodging might also be the better option when using certain abilities like Lune's Fire Rage that auto hits every turn unless she gets hit and interrupted.
