Is there loot?
Are there loot drops or tiered crafting or anything like that? Or is this more like the old jrpgs where there is just predetermined loot in certain locations and static drops from enemies?

It's rather loot light. 'Consumables' recharge every time you rest like a Dark Souls Estus Flask. Weapons and character boost items can be found scattered everywhere in every map. When you defeat enemies you can find new weapons, new boosts, or ones that you already have will be upgraded into better versions. There's also items that let you manually upgrade weapons.

Outside of that, you'll mostly just be looting key/quest items.

This game isn’t about loot. All you get is preset new weapons with some unique effect and some cosmetic apparel.

The most meaningful loot are equippable passive skills found in the field.
There is an increasing choice of active and passive skills to combine for overpowered synergies.

So if you get a weapon drop of a weapon you already have it just upgrades the weapon? Kind of similar to Two Worlds?

Unsure of how it works exactly, since weapons and passives get upgraded the first time I defeat a particular group of enemies. I don't think you can just grind endlessly. You can have a weapon that's level 5 suddenly become level 14 since you defeated a later game enemy.
