Questions about the plot after the second act
My question concerns information that is only revealed after the end of the second act, so read carefully as I will mention major spoilers.

In the third act of the game, the universe of the Artificers and their powers is presented, and the story of the game until then took place within a Canvas. So far so good.

What wasn't clear to me was Alice's "rebirth" in the painting. If Maelle is an "avatar" of Alice in that universe (without being aware of it), who would be the masked figure that appears during the story? Was Maelle a separate "creation", like the evil Renoir, since the Curator was the avatar of the real Renoir? Based on this principle, would the "masked Alice" be the avatar of the real Alice, who could enter and leave the universe in the painting all this time?

And at the end of the second act after the complete Gommage, would the "new" Maelle be Alice who assumed Maelle's "identity" in that universe? If so, who is the Alice that can be defeated in the third act as an extra boss?

Anyway, sorry if any questions seemed stupid, but as the game isn't that expository with some things, I was unsure if I didn't really understand or if they were holes in the script.

The way I understand it...

The badly burned Alicia was painted! She is a doppelgänger like Verso, who was also painted. There are both copies. Painted by their mother, the paintress. Whereas the paintress is a manifestation / an avatar of the real person from outside the canvas, and her body is still outside, her mind is inside the canvas.

The real Alicia (her mind, her body stays behind) then goes into the canvas and is reborn, why exactly it had to be like this (i.e. why not form as a fully formed "Maelle") I am not sure about. But at this point there are two "Alicias" in the painting, the painted doppelgänger and the mind of the real Alicia being born into the canvas world as Maelle.

I hadn't thought of that! And it makes a lot of sense!

Now it makes a lot of sense for the masked Alicia to have delivered the letter to the painted Verse, because then it would be the two painted brothers communicating and in some way rebelling against the conflict caused by their parents.

Could it be that the last Gommage was caused by this version, who was probably aware of the Artificer's powers?

And remembering that Maelle also disappears during the last Gommage, the white-haired version would be the "correct" way of how Alicia should have presented herself on Canvas from the first moment, right?

as far as the final gommage goes it was renoir forcing an end to the painting, thats why maelle wanted to get everything back

Yes the real renoir wants the painting gone
You can fight Alicia, she’s near of the location of one of the axons. Please search for it in the interwebs, I can’t remember where exactly.
