Find a weapon you actually like. They all have specials effect and if you like a specific playstyle (either be auto attack, the L2 shooting, or spells) then you will naturally use only 1 or 2 weapons.

I would say currently (and since the start) I have 1-3 weapons "up to my area" for everyone at lvl 35, with all the playable characters unlocked.

But I also explore 90% of every zone and often backtrack, so I might have a few more currency to spend than a player who just cruise throught the areas.
Yes, but depending on the weapon. If you find a weapon with perks you really love you must upgrade it to unlock all the perks. You can find some weapons more than once and then they get upgraded automatically, but not all weapons are found more than once.

You can get some excellent weapon(s) relatively early in the Gestral Arena. upgrading that makes a lot of sense.

Also, if you upgrade a weapon to lvl 33 its scaling will now be S for its primary attribute. And you need to do all the damage possible in the later game.

So even if you never actually use the weapon to attack, make at least sure that all perks are unlocked, they can be a game changer. For that a weapon needs to be level 20.

All weapons are different with the level 4/10/20 passive.
If you find one that fit your Playstyle for the character, you stay with this weapon and upgrade it.
I have Mealles Weapon from the Arena Fight now on Level 23 and got it with level 5.

so i shouldnt necessarily swap to a new weapon even tho it mite be more powerful? i did notice weapons equal in level tend to be close in power.
In this game, each chars weapons have the same base damage for the most part. So you pick one that has the extras you want (The 3 things unlocked based on level) and then build your char stats based on that, and only upgrade that weapon.

It definitely matters, you won't have a strong enough weapon if you don't upgrade.

if no effects interest you, take the highest damage ratio.

If you like a playstyle, maybe upgrade the associated weapon and compare the damage with your "best" weapon.

IMO if the damage isn't like +15% more (say, 440 vs 490+) I won't think about it because gameplay is more entertaining.

The choice is way clearer when you hit the cap of lvl 10+ of weapons. a lvl 9 vs 11 is day an night. Then again at lvl 19 and 20+.

ah i see... appreciate it fellas/fellitas.

for now, for instance, i got maelle's fire rapier... her weapon i won in a tourney is about on par, but i like to burn n do fire damage after i make enemies weak to fire.

There is a a shield enemy on world map just at the exit of water world.
They have like 30% chance of dropping weapons upgrades material so you can lvl up all weapons you like to lvl9 very early in the game.

How do you even upgrade weapons?
I am getting constantly upgrade materials but 5+ hours into the game and have no idea how to upgrade it.

Yes. That one. But it must be that specific group of 3 enemies just between water world and the village. These are probably the easiest and quickest enemies to farm lvl9 weapon upgrades.
