Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

why only 33 expeditions after 67 years of countdown.
My GPT tells there is not further explanation on this in later story as well. Did they have years when they didn’t launch expedition or a storytelling mistake?

Edit: common consensus on this seems to be that expedition naming started from 0 and after followed the number on the wall, basically 0, 99, 98, …, 34, 33 which is not very intuitive

Is is not the 33th expedition, it is Expedition 33. The first one was Expedition 0, the second one was Expedition 99, and so on. So 33 is the 67th Expedition. Totally fine, story tells that exactly.

It is explained right in the tutorial. Get lost.

You have to pay attention to what they say and show to understand
And the response in the conversation explicitly states that they started expedition numbering from zero, which makes things potentially incorrect.

Interestingly the same npc say this annoys him and that they should have called first one expedition 100 when the number on the wall was 100, not zero, which would make current expedition actually 33 and mathematically correct:D Is this a potential issue recognition from devs?

If expedition name matches the writing on the wall why was the first one called 0 not 100? (NPCs remark on the same..)

It makes sense if you think about it. They didn't know everybody aged 100+ was going to die when they did the first expedition. They also didn't know that it was going to count down every year. The pattern that decided the expedition names hadn't been established yet, so there was no real way for them to name it within that pattern.

Arguably expedition 1 would've made more sense, at least in English. Maybe in France they start counting from 0 though? Alternatively when talking computers it's standard to have the first item labeled 0, so it could be from that too.

Nope, double check the response from npc: “ Correct. That still annoys me. They left in Year 100. They should be called Expedition 100. Makes no sense.”

Maybe they called it "Expedition 0" back then, to point out that they will end the threat and no other Expedition needs to follow? After all, they were the first ones to go...

well there was no reason to launch an expedition at 100 countdown, becouse people would never live to 100 of age. It took an entire generation of people who would not feel the paintress. But when the coundown was down to 67, people would start to feel the effects, and started the expeditions.

From what i understand , the countdown indicates that people of that age would get taken , right? so younger and younger people would disappear. At age 100 no one disappeared.

Not sure which part of his post makes you think he is trolling, but what he says is accurate with the first expedition being called expedition 0, and then the expeditions counting down from 100 (which was the one that was called "expedition 0"). The MC also said that it annoyed him that they called it expedition 0 rather than expedition 100.

Not really sure what he means by the "mathematically correct" statement or "issue from the devs" thing though.

its because he isn't correct. this person is under the assumption that the expedition after 0 was expedition 1 and then 2 and so on to 33 which isn't true and everything in the game points to that not being true, you continue to find expedition journals and flags from expeditions above 33 and this person is either blind, ignoring them, or intentionally misrepresenting it for laughs. hence "are you trolling?"

I"m talking about this. There is a clear explanation in the game and you get journals for each expedition.

There were reasons, it just wasn't to stop the paintress. Part of the city had just been sundered from the continent and become a floating island. Expedition 0 was about checking what happened to the rest of the people they used to know and potentially rescuing survivors.

Stop relying on a GPT to understand things and you'll start to see that you already have all the information you need to figure this out. Using a GPT to figure out what the story is later in a game that is brand new is hilarious too, it isn't going to know ♥♥♥♥ about a game that just came out until that information has been around for a while.

The first expedition was called 0 when it should have been called 100 in hindsight according to that character. We also know that there have been no other expedition's mentioned that are lower than 33 besides 0. Meaning since then the expeditions have been numbered from 99 down.

People using GPTs to compensate for basic media comprehension is insane.
