Having no map was a terrible choice
Love the game, and most of the time not having a map is not a big issue. Yet some areas are so confusing that a map would be a valuable asset. Omitting an ingame map was a lazy and bad choice by the devs, in my opinion.

You played Elden Ring for 300 hours and I’m pretty sure it also don’t have a mini map.

It was a bad choice in ER as well.

I will probably be done before any major patches, but a minimap and battle restart are badly needed imo. Battle restart could be put in quickly but no minimap was probably a design choice and I wouldn't expect one without an expansion/dlc or 2.0 or something.

As lazy as being unable to cope without a map? <3

I think that probably one reason why a minimap isn't included is because some of those areas (at least the ones I've been in) REALLY like hiding paths in tight areas that you might easily overlook that take you to "hidden" stuff. Having a minimap would easily reveal those.

You might be correct I'm afraid.
haven't gotten lost once. The areas have one direct route with branches.....

Most areas are perfectly fine, but Yellow Harvest was PITA, for instance.

There's no map because previous expeditions failed.

This is by design :steamhappy:

Except you can find notes from previous expeditions, which (had they bothered to make maps) should provide some type of notes on navigation.

No minimap is a breath of fresh air and highly welcomed. It is an immersive experience and makes you actually engage with the levels. Anyone that disagrees has less than 90 IQ.

--> They may not have had time; death is everywhere. Playing without a minimap isn't restrictive either; it's possible without one.

I'm talking about a map of the areas your party has already discovered.

Are you 12 or 14 years old? If you're older, I have absolutely devastating news for you.
