You should watch tests of both games because it is not unlikely that you love one and hate the other.
In terms of role-playing I'd say that BG3 has far more options and opportunities for playing a certain character if you care about that. There are a LOT of dialog options, some are dependent on your character's stats (such as charisma or intellect for example). You can be the regular good guy, a psychotic villain, a cynical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, or a bit of everything. Oh, and characters remember what you said and did. Your actions will have consequences, some are immediately obvious, while others will manifest way later. In E33 you can sometimes pick a dialog option while conversing with characters, but I've yet to see any consequences. This game seems to follow the standard JRPG(ish) model, in that characters mostly stick to their script. So far (8 hours in) I've only seen a few instances where I could attack a neutral character or not, but I would imagine that it won't affect the overall plot either way.
So, I'd say maybe google a bit, watch a review of both games to make an informed decision. Both games are great, both are worthy of a purchase at some point, but since you say you're new - maybe start with this one.
If you like combat that rewards quick reflexes and great timing than E33 may appeal to you. This is why E33 will have a smaller audience for those who don't want to be stuck with the easy mode which is more QTE.
BG3 is a more free form game with a focus on movement, NPC conversations, and a lot more strategic fights where you'll often be outnumbered and be required to rely on more creativity and guile to come out on top. While they're both turn based JRPGs tend to be more rigid in how you're meant to approach them and CRPGs often allow you to get through situations through violence, peace, betrayal, and abusing inventory systems.
Why not both.
Consider getting this game in the future though.
