I've encountered a weird DRM on Ubisoft games savefiles, which prevented transferring saves between two different accounts, even when both of them were installed through the same ubisoft launcher. But that has to be really rare for savefiles to be locked in that way.
Anyway, you want to buy the game. Well buy it from xbox app. Or if the option is locked out because you currently have active gamepass, then buy it when the gamepass expires.
BUT on my config at least the game performs worse on Steam. GamePass version is at a steady frame-rate, but using exactly the same settings, same drive (same everything), in Steam the game is stuttery (which might also explain why I saw so many posts about that here while not having the experience on launch day using the GamePass version).
Not sure what the issue is, I tried removing all Steam overlays without much difference. The only difference between the two installs (outside of folder paths) seem to be the .exe name.
I had to refund it, as it makes combat pretty hard and traversal quite unbearable. :(

Replace the hearts in the above link with numbers 1 4 8 8. I guess an overaggressive filter is changing those numbers to hearts when they are in a row.
