Save file transer
Has anyone tried, in this game (or others), to transfer a save file from Game Pass (Xbox app) to Steam? I'm playing this game on Game Pass and I'm around 10 hours in, but I think I’d like to buy it on Steam because the developers truly deserve it (the game is brilliant). However, I'm wondering if it's possible to transfer a save from one platform to the other, because even though the game is amazing, I wouldn't really want to replay the 10 hours I just did.

It entirely depends. Most games should work, as there's really little reason for PC having different format on savefiles. The exes and other files are often not the same.

I've encountered a weird DRM on Ubisoft games savefiles, which prevented transferring saves between two different accounts, even when both of them were installed through the same ubisoft launcher. But that has to be really rare for savefiles to be locked in that way.

Anyway, you want to buy the game. Well buy it from xbox app. Or if the option is locked out because you currently have active gamepass, then buy it when the gamepass expires.
Thanks for the reply. When I buy it, it'll probably be on Steam since that's where I have the biggest library of PC games. I mostly use the Xbox app just to play Game Pass titles. I'll probably end up buying it anyway, but it would be nice to be able to transfer the save.

Yes, it works just fine there is a thread somewhere deep in here explaining how, pretty straight forward. I did it last night.

BUT on my config at least the game performs worse on Steam. GamePass version is at a steady frame-rate, but using exactly the same settings, same drive (same everything), in Steam the game is stuttery (which might also explain why I saw so many posts about that here while not having the experience on launch day using the GamePass version).

Not sure what the issue is, I tried removing all Steam overlays without much difference. The only difference between the two installs (outside of folder paths) seem to be the .exe name.

I had to refund it, as it makes combat pretty hard and traversal quite unbearable. :(
I also had problems, but on Xbox app. The game was really blurry for me. Especially during cutscenes—apart from the characters, you couldn’t see anything at all. The game forces an upscaler, which is a problem for AMD graphics card owners like me, because it doesn’t have FSR implemented, which would work best. I had to use OptiScaler, which forces DLSS (to be honest, I have no idea how that even works), and I also had to set anti-aliasing to Low. I set DLSS to Quality instead of using native resolution, because native resolution actually looked worse than with the upscaler. Overall, it took a lot of fiddling, but it’s working well for me now, thanks to those tweaks I mentioned.

Here is how you transfer save files (it works, I also moved from gamepass to steam):

Replace the hearts in the above link with numbers 1 4 8 8. I guess an overaggressive filter is changing those numbers to hearts when they are in a row.
