Bourgeon Swallow?
Can this attack be countered or dodged?

I beat him on the second try stumbling upon him - once he takes enough damage or a certain number of turns (I dont know which it is) he will spit out the party member he swallowed, such as using a full overcharge. Parrying the miasma is the best thing you can do to generate charges. Dodge most of his combo and parry what you think you can. Healing light to get rid of status effects immediately.

I fought once, he ate from a 3 person team 1.

Now i have 2 guesses.

1. He eats 1 person everytime -> start the fight with 1 in your team, let him be eaten and continue with the other 3 mates.

2. Start the fight with only 2 man, if they lose continue with your other 2 teammates.

If this won't work play on, maybe the fight is later possible.
I didn't try a second fight, made too low dmg anyway, no need to invest time into a fight that can be easier later in the game.

Thanks.
He spits them out when you break him. Damage is irrelevant.

He ate 2 of my characters at one point….

Yea as the guy above said, he will spit them out if you break him. As long as you are good about parrying all his attacks, which he only has 3 different attack types he will do, you will fill his break gauge really quickly.
It was a bit annoying on Clea because they're gone for the rest of the fight and she kept taking my highest DPS until I swapped my members around. lol

Just wait until a certain secret super boss the swallow is permanent not until break

Late to the party just to add the detail that a) yes, it is non avoidable and b) what gives you back your eaten companion is filling the bar and attacking with skills such as overcharge

So the 2 people strategy might be interesting but if you fight with 3 people directly you'll fill the bar faster

I was only able to avoid him once, idk if it's bug or can be avoided
The side quest bourgeon, the rest couldn't so far.
just make sure everyone in your party has break and you'll be fine.

Just a note: I'm sure it's obvious, but it also spits out party members when you kill it. I fought one once. It ate Gustave at the start, ate Lune a few turns later, then I killed it with Maelle in a couple of more turns and her party members came back.
Maybe one of these days I'll figure out how to trigger a break more consistently...

its unavoiable. Breaking the enemy it what make him spit them out. the best way to deal with these dudes is to go into the fight with any break damage modifiers you can get. if you dont break the mob after a certain amount of turns (idk how many) itll eat another party member. if you havent broken it at all, and havent killed it, its possible to lose just by it eating all your team.
