There's also dodge and parry on defense that doesn't have a QTE prompt, you just gotta know when to dodge or parry
ps.: You can disable the QTE for attacks in the settings if you dislike it.
But the system is there, so why not attempt? Technically if you try, and fail, it's basically the same as doing nothing at all in the first place.
Keep in mind though, if you want to get special gear you'd normally have to go back to get without actually practicing or mastering your mechanics, they could be obsolete by the time you do decide to go back and get them.
I personally love the challenge of being rewarded with powerful goodies early on, because I did decide to go all in, and use the mechanics in place.
The faults I find in the game are that the menu UI is pretty bad, and that the atmosphere is almost too heavy and depressing at times (though it does have moments of levity).
