My Game looks TERRIBLE and I cant figure out why
I have my settings all on the highest possible settings, and the first cut scene looks so terrible, I can't even get past it to play the game.

If anybody has any suggestions, I really appreciate it, my GPU is a 7900xtx

Is UE5 known to be bad or something?
It is, dude above is not trolling unfortunately. Most ue5 games look like ♥♥♥♥ especially in 1080p (which is even lower if you use upscaling). I don't want to write a 200 word essay about this, you can just look behind the curtain yourself. Launch any UE5 game or RE Engine game like MH Wilds, disable any form of TAA (if you can, in most of these games it is forced so you couldn't see the harsh reality and you have to mod it out lol), and you can see how the game ACTUALLY looks. Then they cover it with vaseline (TAA/DLSS/FSR/TSR) to smooth out the pixels, but genuine crisp assets which take gigabytes of your vram are now sad lookin.
actually came to these forums looking for performance issues. i really wanted this game but it immediately put me off that they made it with ue5. ue5 is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible. especially so for AMD users. every single ue5 game thats come out that ive played, has looked ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful and given me horrible fps. its really put me off to the point i wont buy something if i know its made with ue5.
coming from someone who can play cyberpunk on ultra at 80ish fps, its not your pc, its the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ engine.

I am also running AMD and had the same problem, albeit with PC Gamepass. Nothing I tried in-game helped other than to make it run or look slightly better or worse- it always still looked and performed badly. I even tried changing my laptop's performance/battery settings. I don't even think it's UE5 specifically either- Silent HIll 2 remake looked and ran great on my machine other than the UE5 hiccups everyone gets. Thankfully I have an Xbox Series S so I switched to that after a few hours of struggling. It was a literal night and day difference. Even on a Series S, the game looks beautiful. I would not recommend playing it in this state and playing it on a console if at all possible. Get a refund either way.

You need to be using DLSS4 at quality but you have an AMD card so you’re cooked.

Here is the fix for AMD users:

You have to disable DOF(depth of field) using engine.ini then install RenoHDR mod from nexus. Then switch to XeSS quality/ultra quality.

Difference is night and day. thank me later

Set pos processing to low, alternatively use a mod that completely turns it off. It is the reason why everything looks blurry.

Thanks for posting this. This helps quite a bit, but it still isn't as good as Series S for me. It does seem to make it playable at least, though, but since I have the option I will stick with Series S. This should help other people though.

I can only use TSR or XeSS because I'm AMD, everything is set to 1080p
Don't need it anyways. I turned off DLSS and the visuals were noticieably sharper for me. There are some areas where it is ridiculously blurry. And I'm happy to have seen that. Native settings all the way!!

It's the art direction they went with. There is a mod you can download to disable DOF, Film Grain, and Motion blur on the camera. Also, just turn post process all the way down. there isn't much else you can do. You could download Reshade and use Fake HDR which can help with the contrast, or if you have an HDR display it may support the Auto HDR feature. If you want to enjoy it, you may just have to get over that part. I personally think it adds to the charm. One last thing you can look into are some console commands that UE5 uses and put them in your engin.ini config file. That may help with some of what is bothering you.
This is what mine looks like:

forgot to add you need to remove sharpening too then it will look on par with consoles. you can increase LOD too if your system can handle it

also update xess from intel's github to remove flickering on some lights

and yes the game should come preconfigured like this and it's a joke the consumer has to do so much legwork.. the game is very good though

This game looks atrocious on my RTX 5080 everything is on epic settings but looks like I'm playing on the worst lowest settings of any game I've ever played before yet I'm only getting about 78 FPS another game for the dumpster thank God for refunds!
