Oblivion Did this game Dirty
Not going to lie. I had to take a break from oblivion and forgotten about this. Decided to try it out... and wow now I feel bad. They did this game so dirty. Only 0.1% of players beat an axon.. crazy i got that and was like. Man... I hope more people find this gem.

I mean it almost certainly affected them negatively but they're clearly not hurting for sales right now. And what they didn't get at launch thanks to oblivion they'll get over the long tail.
They did and the rabid oblivion fanboys act like the remaster is some sort of milestone for gaming. UE5 and Creation Engine both are based on C++, they literally copy and pasted the game into UE5, thats why they called it remaster, its still they very same as before but looks prettier and stutters more.

But dont worry, everyone that played just 20min of this game will bully everyone they know into playing this game, like back in the day everyone couldnt shut up about red dead 2.

Oblivion was made on Gamebryo, which predates Creation. But yes, both use C++ Libraries.

Yea, my mistake but they did copy paste.

What do you mean by "copy paste" exactly?
More people will find this gem because of great word of mouth !

The whole engine, thats why combat is still spaming left mouse click, they didnt even bother to add a first person character model, no body in first person. Every system is literally the same except some minor things.
I really like the Oblivion Remaster for what it is...but it's still a late 2000s game. The level design isn't great because of it. The UE5 rendering, new models, voices and whatnot are great...but it's certainly no Expedition 33. I'm not very far in on Gamepass and I can tell this game is a labor of love and holy optimization Batman...

They did. Its kind of weird how they seem to have done it too. I think given enough time with stronger hardware that has yet to come out itll do well. Everyone struggled to run the OG as well at 60 fps, unless you you were running two 7800 GTX's in SLI with and Athlon 64 FX chip or something like that. Most people here on the threads probably werent around during that time in the PC space to remember that
for the first time in years i have more than one game i want to play at any given time. i do not think this was planned, it was probably just coincidence.

The 8800GTX came out a couple of weeks before Oblivion and back then you didn't have the availability issues we have today. I got an Asus model for around £450. Before that i did have the said Athlon 64 + either sli 7800GTs or GTXs i forget which. Ended up replacing the Athlon with a Q6600 when that came out.

I can't tell from your tone if you think the whole "copy paste" thing is laziness or just the wrong design decision, but actually making a game feel like the original on a completely new engine is really hard, especially in older games where the gameplay and engine code is more tightly coupled. I didn't play the remaster because I didn't care for the original but if they managed to succeed at that with the remaster, that's already pretty impressive work.

I think that was the goal at least; to update Oblivion for new audiences in a modern, prettier engine, not to truly remake it. If you think that was the wrong approach, I'm not sure I agree but I can definitely understand it.

Fully remaking a game like Oblivion would be massive undertaking to be honest, it would make the FF7 Remakes look like small potatoes.

Neither wrong game design or laziness, its just i disagree with people that think this is some waking call for AAA studios and a milestone that breaked something. Ofc they put a crap ton of work in it but its nothing special, it even has the same bugs as the the original. I think its cool that they shadow dropped a Oblivion Remaster.
