Game is mediocre
Movement animations and facial animations are very poor. Characters turn without any inertia, they run in a very strange way, as if running was simply sped up. NPCs are just mannequins that don't respond to anything, the game world feels lifeless, the combat system requires no tactics, only timely pressing of dodge or parry. I don't understand where people see a masterpiece in this. There are much better representatives of the genre. Voice acting is terrible.

Brave of you. I agree.

JRPGs can be a funny genre and you have to admire them taking it on and not making a complete dogs dinner of it and they haven't - lots to like about the game. But yeah this is definitely over-hyped.

I'm not one for videogame stories anyway - I think they are all bad, and this seems fine so far but you'd think it's nabokov or something they way people are banging on; so I look forward to some mindblowing story in the next 20 hours or so...

Game is good. Systems are good. Polish is definitely AA and that's to be expected.

Game is not the saviour of the genre though. Game of the year... so far? I guess for many it is? Not for me, so far.
Art design is good, voice acting is good, combat is fun, characters have actual character to them which is rare enough and story is interesting thus far. Running is odd, agreed there.

No tactics is an interesting statement. You can win basically any fight if you’re perfect with the QTE, that’s true. If you’re one of those, then cool, that’s impressive and I’m happy for you. The vast majority of players will have a mix of success and failure depending on many factors in a fight though and build variety definitely exists to support those strengths/weaknesses.

Masterpiece is subjective. I wouldn’t call it one though I honestly don’t think I could name you any game I’d consider one so there is that. Still, I do think it’s an excellent game so far.
Voice acting is terrible really?

Yeah I agree the voice acting is not terrible at all. It's good.

Lip syncing tho, they just didn't have the budget, staff or time.

Saying the voice acting is bad is totally unfair IMO.

I mean Andy Serkis is also among the voice actors. ^^
At a high-level, the writing is fantastic, though the actual dialogue is pretty woody and the voice acting really under-delivers, particular with Gustave. I'm thinking maybe Charlie Cox should stick to live action. The game world looks great and the music, while pretty simplistic and not at all memorable, sounds great in the auditory sense of the word.

The combat is what really drags it down. Whether you like timed attacks or not, they really dominate the gameplay such that everything else like pictos and skills really end up mattering very little.

I'm still loving the game so far and it's definitely worth the asking price, but it's not my game of the year. It's not even my JRPG of the year.

If you think pictos and skills are unimportant, either you're playing easy mode, failing to grasp the nuance of each character, or all of the above. I'm sorry, but that's patently false especially playing on expert. Granted, it takes around the six hour mark for it to start coming together, but it makes a huge difference between banging away at something thinking it's an hp sponge vs melting it like a champ.
Well. Nothing is for everybody. Has there ever even been a game with 100% positive on steam? this game is sitting around 95% positive right now, meaning that 5% of people that played it do not like it. Sometime, myself included, you just fall into that minority. No big deal. It happens.

I agree. And don't forget the combat animations! For "attack," there's only ONE animation. ONE attack animation. You have got to be kidding me. I am outraged.

It's fine if you don't like it, but what is the purpose of this topic? To argue with people who like the game, or to get people who also dislike the game to come post and agree with you?

OP plays Trails, one of the most cringeworthy, cliché-ridden anime games, thus his opinion does not matter.

To discuss the points? Discuss the faults of the game? Do you think every thread should just be positive? "Game is great, man!"

No, critical topics are just as welcome and legitimate. Don't try to shut it down with empty nonsense. Your post has no value to the thread at all.

What? I am severely autistic and honestly just meant what I asked, I was curious whether the point was to argue with the people who like it or to get people who also dislike it to come post and agree. I like the game but don't want to post an argument if the person just wanted some validation as I think that would be mean.

Edit: This is also why I prefaced my post with "it's fine if you don't like it". I really wish people would not always take my questions as hostile or stuff like that.

This guy claiming the facial animations are bad wow... don't need to read anything pass that remark.

Is the game woke tho?

What's the point of any discussion?

The fact that the game is so hyped is interesting in and of itself. It happens. Breath of the Wild comes to mind, which always had detractors from the more traditional zelda fans and the "it's just a ubisoft game" crowd - but that game was insanely hyped. Overhyped IMO.

This game maybe even more so pound for pound. Obviously this game won't sell 20 million but it has already done half a mill on steam alone AFAIK. Pretty interesting.

The game deserves some scrutiny.
