JRPGs can be a funny genre and you have to admire them taking it on and not making a complete dogs dinner of it and they haven't - lots to like about the game. But yeah this is definitely over-hyped.
I'm not one for videogame stories anyway - I think they are all bad, and this seems fine so far but you'd think it's nabokov or something they way people are banging on; so I look forward to some mindblowing story in the next 20 hours or so...
Game is good. Systems are good. Polish is definitely AA and that's to be expected.
Game is not the saviour of the genre though. Game of the year... so far? I guess for many it is? Not for me, so far.
No tactics is an interesting statement. You can win basically any fight if you’re perfect with the QTE, that’s true. If you’re one of those, then cool, that’s impressive and I’m happy for you. The vast majority of players will have a mix of success and failure depending on many factors in a fight though and build variety definitely exists to support those strengths/weaknesses.
Masterpiece is subjective. I wouldn’t call it one though I honestly don’t think I could name you any game I’d consider one so there is that. Still, I do think it’s an excellent game so far.
Lip syncing tho, they just didn't have the budget, staff or time.
Saying the voice acting is bad is totally unfair IMO.
The combat is what really drags it down. Whether you like timed attacks or not, they really dominate the gameplay such that everything else like pictos and skills really end up mattering very little.
I'm still loving the game so far and it's definitely worth the asking price, but it's not my game of the year. It's not even my JRPG of the year.
No, critical topics are just as welcome and legitimate. Don't try to shut it down with empty nonsense. Your post has no value to the thread at all.
Edit: This is also why I prefaced my post with "it's fine if you don't like it". I really wish people would not always take my questions as hostile or stuff like that.
What's the point of any discussion?
The fact that the game is so hyped is interesting in and of itself. It happens. Breath of the Wild comes to mind, which always had detractors from the more traditional zelda fans and the "it's just a ubisoft game" crowd - but that game was insanely hyped. Overhyped IMO.
This game maybe even more so pound for pound. Obviously this game won't sell 20 million but it has already done half a mill on steam alone AFAIK. Pretty interesting.
The game deserves some scrutiny.
