I noticed performance doesn't seem to change much based on graphics options. I get 30-40 FPS on ultra/1440p and basically the same if I put everything on low and make it 720p (I have a 3080). Guess it's CPU-bound, but my CPU isn't terrible either. All-around poor optimization.

RTX 4090, 64GB RAM, i9-13900k @ 5.5GHz, and I'm getting around 58FPS and stuttering at 4k on diss quality. It's just unacceptable from a modern game

That's UE5 for you. I can't get a stable 60 at 1440p native with a 7800XT and 5900X at medium settings, and the game defaults me to Epic.

Running a 4090 + 13900 @4k with zero performance issues whatsoever, at least up through the end of the flying waters area. Using dlss+dlaa with everything maxed out, haven't been looking at total fps, but no tearing/stuttering/freezing.

Ryzen 5 3600 / RX 6900 XT / 32bg ram Performance was terrible in the tutorial area regardless of settings. Once I set out on the expedition and got control of my characters suddenly performance was rock solid. We shall see how it shapes up as we go along

1440p quality maxed with medium shadows (cause unreal engine) 4070ti ryzen 9 7900x locked 60fps all the way. I'm also using the latest version of DLSS / super res with overrides through Nvidia App.

If by god awful you mean consistent 4K 60fps with DLSS Quality, that's an interesting bar. That's what I'm running with a 4090. I can't quite do DLAA and hit 60fps consistently in combat as it dips to 50fps, but honestly I can't tell the difference between DLAA and DLSS quality in this one anyway. If you can't do that, you need to look at drivers. No stutters whatsoever btw, and I'd notice them.

Honestly you might as well just get a console with performance like that. You're telling me that you dumped a couple grand on one of the most powerful GPU's ever made, on top of using DLSS, just to get console level performance? People like you are exactly why gaming is the way it is today, with devs not optimizing their games and people having to use upscaling.

UE5 is just not an optimized engine. You're basically expected to use frame gen.

I have a ryzen 9 7900x with a 4090 and have the same performance. It's just UE5 sucks.

I was in the same boat but have observed that later on in the game combat gets less performant, it drops a bit, around to 50fps at some moments, thinking about moving to balance dlss preset but it’s gonna be the first game I cant run at steady 60fps with my 4090

58fps at 4k max settings? Wow that's completely unplayable.
