Parry tipps
Hello,

I'm a bit older and notice it a lot in this game. I've been trying to beat Maelle (at the harbor) for a while and just can't manage to dodge or parry. I know it's made hard on purpose, but just can't find the right way.

Does anyone have any useful tips on the best way to parry or dodge? When is the right time? Not just with Maelle. Any general tips would help me.

Thanks.

There seems to be no clear indicator. I just tried and errored, until I got it right. Once you can consistently dodge her big attack (right after she holds up her sword), you can beat her. Dont need to dodge the faster triple combo attack.

the worst bit about it in this game is there no physical indicator.. some attacks even have movements that make it look like its coming but it isnt. so you always go too early..

Thanks Bluemoon. I will try it.

Any general tips for all enemies? Something what is helping to find quicker the timing?

From one older guy to another, play ANY action game well rested. Alternatevely it is annoyng game of memorization and repeat beatdowns until you get tempo. And this particular game needs gamepad, keyboard input have delay. And lock fps at 30 frames.

I’m also an older player but you don’t need high reflex - just timing and experience.

Generally speaking you need to wait for the final swing and press parry when that final swing start. About half a second before the actual hit.

Dodging is easier so it may be a better option against combos and definitely a good option if you miss a single parry in combos where you need to parry everything for a counter attack.

Get a hit a few times, watch the cue.

Im playing with controller on (average) 100 fps. But your tips are helping, I bet. I wanted to parry, but maybe I should just learn to dodge first. AND not playing after 9 hours work! ;)

the first thing to understand is that you shouldn't try to parry attacks if you can't dodge them consistently. Parrying window is shorter than dodging, corresponding to the "perfect" dodge.
So basically, focus on dodging and if you notice that you're getting perfects accurately for an attack, try parrying it instead.

For cues, lots of physical attacks can be dodged the moment the "swing" of the attack starts. Try to do that, and notice the attacks that fall out of the pattern, either because they're too fast so need to be dodged a bit prior to the swing's begining, or on the contrary, that they're slow and should be dodged slightly later.

For ranged attacks, many enemy make a noise right when the attack will be launched, try to listen, and to hit dodge when you hear the sound cue instead of searching for a visual cue.

In general, don't panic, lots of enemies have quite a few movements before the real attack is launched on you.

Also, pay attention to the name of the attack, since the game is telling you what's the enemy is initiating. It's very useful both to recognise attacks that have similar starts but different timing, and because sometimes the game literally tells you how many hit there'll be (like "XXX performs a 4 hits combo" for ex).

That is a good advice. Thanks zefyris!. I will try to learn dodging first and listening to sounds and trying to notice the "swings".

At 30 fps parry is MUCH more manageble, disabling frame generation helps too, you will be shocked at difference if you try. Simply because window to press button will be half or maybe entire second wider.(never bothered to actually check maybe it is pure placebo effect, but it works for me)
don't look at animation it's god awful you need to dodge 0.1s after being hit which I don't think will make sense to any gamer so you'll always fumble the parry.

my tip: close your eyes and listen for "woosh" sound and parry/dodge imminently when you hear it, you'll miss few times until you recognise the sound but once you do you won't miss any parries/dodges in game... some attacks in further in game doesn't seem to be parryable or the technique doesn't work on those but you can still use it to dodge.

hope you'll enjoy the game I couldn't felt like I got scammed playing it on gamepass xD

Another potentially big tip for all:

Dodge combo attacks and try to parry only the very last hit. I’m not sure if it works with every single combo but it does work with at least some combos when you can parry only the last hit and still get a counter hit.
Try using a wired controller. That helped me quite a bit.

Actually, i think you paary while beeing "hit" so the moment the enemy would hit you
FoShin Apr 26 @ 1:50am
Currently Im getting better with those tips. Still missing a lot and dying, but it is better.
How?
- Wired controller
- Trying to dodge/parry when the hit lands
- 90 fps capped

Thank you all for helping me.
