I've only finished Act 1 so far but story-wise I think this might be right there with the best of them. It is very French though, even down to having black and white scenes where characters stare emotionally into the distance.
2) Yes. I (and several of my friends also admitted the same) cried in the prologue. THE PROLOGUE. Imagine what the full game is gonna do.
3) It's what you thought JRPGs of the future would look like when you played Final Fantasy 6 instead of what Final Fantasy 7 turned out to be. I'm also getting crazy Terranigma vibes from the exploration areas.
1) Turn-based DS is a great way to describe the game. If you don't learn to successfully use the dodge and parry then you're going to have a hard time in the game.
2) The story so far is very engaging, and yes, you are going to get pulled in from the start.
3) My take is that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a successful fusion of the sense of awe, wonder, joy of exploration, and engaging combat typically had from DS-type games with the story-telling, character development, and combat systems (including turn-based mechanics that give you a moment to think and plan during a battle) from traditional RPGs.
I'd heartily recommend this title to anyone sitting on the fence.
