Grind?
Hi,

I know its been out for like 30 seconds but i have a question.

For context - I usually detest JRPGs because I get attacked every few minutes by trash mobs and have to grind away on said trash mobs - which I find very dull - to pass gated content where you must be level X to be strong enough to defeat a boss. I don't enjoy this type of design.

I had to abandon e.g. Like a Dragon 7 because of this kind of grind/trash-mob design, even though I was loving the story and characters. I could not finish the story and exploration because I was interrupted very frequently to fight some trash, and/or I'd hit a wall where I needed to simply be a certain level of power to win a boss fight, with no other option but to go and slaughter trash to become stronger.

But, for reference I love games like BG3, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, the old Infinity engine games etc where if you simple explore enough and take on challenges, you naturally progress to be strong enough without grinding. Or you have RPG alternatives to a brute force battle, or you can exploit a weakness or just be can be clever/tactical enough to overcome an obviously stronger foe without taking it head on in a slugfest.

Sooo, I was completely ignoring this game as it is supposedly a JRPG. But I am now hearing it is a rather special game and maybe not so JRPGs like? I am vaguely hoping maybe I will enjoy it, since it does look like a good story and world.

Given the above, can anyone please let me know if I might like this game?

Thanks, and I am not trying to disrespect JRPGs. I know many folk like to grind and find it fun and relaxing, just not me.

you can parry actively, timed correctly it triggers a riposte from your side. guess if you're skilled you can overcome some challenges.

Trash mob can be respawned like in Souls like games and all trash mobs are optional. You can theoretically complete the whole game without taking any damage if you can master parry and/or dodge.

The game is uniquely skill based similar to souls like games.
I play on hard and therefore might not be the best to ask but if you take your time to learn the game mechanics I assume on normal difficulty you will have the desired outcome.

I'm still having trouble with timings and get 2 shotted by most enemys so I have to do a bit of grinding but for me the combat system is superb so I don't mind.

In the worst case go for low difficulty and you can do whatever you want. You can also change the difficulty midgame.
The enemies respawn when you rest. I've played for five hours so far and backtracking hasn't been necessary. So the respawning didn't matter. But it does make grinding possible. You can see the monsters and easily avoid them if you want. But most battles don’t even last a minute.
There are several good answers here. Thank you very much all. It sounds like I may enjoy it.
there is secret arena allow u to grind level later in the game. easy boss fight, repeatable and easy EXP
My experience (about 8 hours in, on hard) is that you'd sooner learn a boss fight's parry behavior before you would outpace them with pure stats leveling on mobs, so you might as well just focus on your skill, while the leveling up just happens naturally on the side. Ensuring characters play off each other is huge too, but yeah, not seeing a reason to grind. Also, areas seem to kind of soft-cap you on XP, where as the next area is huge, so you can almost tell when it's skill / equipment, vs level.

As long as you're skillful, you can probably beat this game without grinding.

a small level grind dose help, some boss can one or two shot u if u miss one or two dodge or parry even if u are level 20+ or higher, also beside, RPG is meant for grinding.
