Am i supposed to backtrack?
Some of enemies are just straight out one shotting me. Do i get to come back and fight them later or do you just miss out on stuff if i skip fights?

I sure did.

Unless you run into something that has an extreme amount of health, or deals an overkill amount of damage to you, you can pretty much defeat every enemy at time of meeting them, perhaps with a slight grind.

Every enemy in the main areas can be defeated as you meet them. What can't be defeated immediately are the major bosses in optional side areas, until much later.

So is chromatic troupadour supposed to be fought later? He doesn't have much health but if you dont do all his dodges perfectly he just wrecks me.

You can out level them and comeback or fight them head on and master their attack pattern and keep dodging/countering them. Rely on heals and revive (don't be shy to use these, they refill when u rest).

Now, that guy and the Borean (can never remember the name of the giant tall thing that eats you) are certainly tough. Those 2, and the sea mime are all the first difficulty spikes you'll run into. For so long I was finding the game too easy until them.

In any case, like with most bosses, I just had to learn how they worked and made my way through them.

Anyone fight the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Mime thing? I can't figure out how to beat it. He puts up his wall and I do like 10 damage to him.

Mimes, and all enemies for that matter, have a bar that builds up. When it fills, they are stunned. Gustave's overcharge is best for this.

Yes there are countless optional bosses that are very impractical to fight early on and some encounters are genuinely not meant to be fought until way later in the game.

Honestly every enemy you meet during story areas can be defeated around the time you find them. It's just the super bosses on the world map/side areas that pretty much require late game characters, or perfect parrying 100 turns in a row.
