Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Parry and Dodge TIPS
Parry in this game works as it should and I don't know why some people are saying it's hard. Just a tip: You need to parry just a few frames before getting hit, there is no sound help like most games, but instead you just need to focus on the enemy and when he is about to hit you, it's time to parry or perfect dodge, as soon as you get the timing it's very easy.

I understand some people were not expecting this, but the game feels great as it is and would be a shame if they nerf or boost the parry system. Maybe an option to disable for those who don't want or can't learn the pattern.

About dodge: It's slightly easier than parry, but I think it should be even easier than it is. It will help people who complain about the parry timing and also give a reason for us to use dodge. As of now, 8 hours in, I didn't see any reason to dodge instead of parrying unless you don't want to hit the enemy and lose Gustave's mark.

Also, I need to test it more, but from my experience, when the enemy hits multiple times you only need to parry the LAST hit to get the parry counter.

Oh, I do know that. The issue is when exactly they hit. Some charge up for so long, that it makes it hard to time because it looks like they are about to hit you but are still charging.
Wait until you fight the enemies that purposely do fake out, acting like they're gonna punch normally but then curve around, or use a different fist!
Nice. Looking forward to it.

Hopefully by then I have a better understanding of it by then.
Died a few times with the boss near the area when you first meet the flying ones. After a few tries, I finally managed it, but still frustrating.

practice made you better, i found out, if u die a lot fighting one boss u will learn how to dodge and parry so well.
Yeah, it works like Souls games. Learning the pattern makes it very easy.
Successful Parry: you take 0 damage AND deal 6 million damage
Failed Parry: you take 6 million damage

Great ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ classic turn based JRPG-inspired game, frenchbros
the question is every time met new enemy/ elite enemy / boss , I gotta learn and get used to their attacks , it would take much time to get used to. especially damages from elite enemy are so crazy . it's really frustrating

being 33 lvl Gustav now(1361 HP, hidden arena Pictos installed) (Total Goldra Boss try is counting 3 hours almost) Now the battle with her is going about 10 min and she lost 5% HP WTF?????. Parry her is a big problem and much bigger problem is this anormous HP while every my counter attack deals 9999 DMG. How much hp does she has if she 1shots me almost every hit except one that deals only 861 dmg non-crit

The issue is that parrying stops all damage, and gives you counter attacks....instead of what happens in other RPGs where it add a bit of damage or partially mitigates attacks.

If you can get your parry rate to 80 percent or higher....the system will feel amazing.

However, the game feels unplayable with a 5-10 percent parry rate.

This is why I am asking for indicators similar to the attack indicators be added for defensive parries. They can be optional, but I think that would go a long way to helping the average parry rate go up without changing the feel for the people who can already get 80 percent plus parry rates.
i legit be parrying all types of attacks idk
maybe its cuz iv been playing all types of soulslikes all the time and got very used to very fast parrying and had a great time in games like Sekiro.
it just feels natural in this game, all attacks are very well telegraphed aside from some that are "Trial and error"

thats ...how gaming works
you learn from the enemies and adapt
you're not always meant to kill every boss/elite enemy in the first try.
I think, its unsolvable. Make it to easy and the game has no challange, to difficult and its unfun.
Its a love it or hate it game. I decided to hate it.
I just FEEL like there is input lag. I've heard there is some on the controller but even mouse and keyboard i swear sometimes i hit something and nothing happens, or it just happens slower than i expected.. I just don't like how it feels which is a real shame.

Yea I hope they leave it alone at least for the hardest difficulty. I chose it for a reason and dont want it to be easy.
I found limiting the framerate to 60 helped a bit. You get a little more consistency and you can gauge the input window easier.

Hey, not disagreeing with you. For people like you, this is probably great. Honestly, some people will massively enjoy this game — and all the more power to you for that. It is an awesome game. But have you also thought that maybe not everyone is built the same way as you?

I bought this game because I was excited for another turn-based title that looked almost AAA quality. I jumped on it without doing much research or checking first — totally my fault.

I have played games with QTEs before, and turn-based games with some reaction elements, and I can usually handle them. But this is different. This is unforgiving. Even on the easiest setting, I am missing almost every single reaction. I do not know what is going wrong, but half the time I have to spam the Q key over and over just to try and land a dodge, because my reaction time is so poor.

And no, this is not just a "skill issue." I genuinely have slow reaction times. Always have. This game, as good as it is, is simply brutal for people like me.

Why do people not realise they are basing their experience purely on themselves? Their mind, their body, their reaction speed. Not everyone plays the same way, not everyone can play the same way.

For some of us — like me — our reactions are much slower. Giving only a second or less to hit Q, and sometimes even that feeling like the game does not register properly, creates a painful and frustrating experience.

To the point where I am just uninstalling it, feeling gutted. I can only hope that someday a mod comes out, or better yet, the developers add a proper accessibility option for players who struggle with fast reaction timing. I would love nothing more than to enjoy this incredible game without feeling punished for the way I am built.

I am right there with you. I am not picking the game up again without a change either to the dodge windows or at least indicators similar to attacking.

The game feels very unfun if you can only get 10 percent dodge rate or less.
Parrying in this game is great and you can absolutely master to do it consistently. there is more generous window than in many other games you just have to figure out the rhythm and timing. and I say this as someone who usually absolutely suc**ks at parrying. for example I quit and never finished Lies of P cause I couldn't master parrying at all and I never play any parry builds in games. so yeah it's just practice for the timing. that first mime destroyed me. and than I did like 30 repeated fights with Maelle in prologue.. at first I was failing by the end I was parrying everything. so it's just people having no patience to practice and wanting to be able to do everything and beat everything on first few tries... most people try 4-5 fights and rage that the game is too hard.
