Difficulty feels odd
The "normal" mode is too easy, I have yet to die once or even come close to dying. Expert mode expects you to 100% perfect dodge or parry everything or die in 1 hit. I cba to spend time mastering every fight on expert just because. Was there no middle ground between too easy and dodge everything or you die?

Wut? Are you even past the first boss? Normal bosses can one shot you without proper parry/dodge/jump.
Started the game at the hardest level. Its rough, esp since it's my first run! But I'm enjoying it so far. lol

Yeah i have won every single fight first try. A few of my characters have died but I wasn't even close to losing the battle. It feels too easy and expert is just too punishing if you fail even a single dodge.

You must be a master at timing. I've died like 25x so far.
expert is not that punishing if you put some point in vitality and use your skill at your disposal

its a great difficulty and you actually feel rewarded when completing an encounter

and really is you struggle, just learn how to get advantage of gustave's mechanics

Maybe I'm just bad at timing attacks or something. Normal can be a pain in my behind or really easy. In the beginning I fought a boss that would literally one shot me.
When I noticed how ridiculously small parry/dodge windows are on Expert I just switched to normal. I played all the "parry" focused games and always did really well but in this one on Expert I get like 1 out of 3 parries. Weapon literally has to be against your skin to get this timing right.
I just started stacking 100% of my stats into vitality to boost the amount of healing I get since it's all based on max HP %.

Now the problem I have is that enemies either die too quickly for me to use cool combos and their damage output is completely trivial compared to my HP.

OR

I run into an enemy that oneshots my characters if I miss a single parry... and there is almost nothing in between. Fights that are in between are usually just me trying to build resources to heal my team and it just being a war of attrition till the enemy dies from basic attacks while building resources so that I can heal myself.. which is equally lame. I've only had a few fun fights where I actually got to buff up, debuff the enemy, break them and hit them with an element they're weak to... and that was a satisfying fight.. but that seems like the exception to combat in my experience.

The last enemy I fought before closing the game was hitting my characters for 800 damage if I missed a parry. All of my characters have ~ 800 HP.. and the only stat I've invested in is literally vitality. So either it's intentionally a 1 shot or the game expects me to perfect parry like 50+ times in a row, or leave and come back to fight this guy when I'm a higher level -- which I'm not a fan of.

The parry system is definitely on my last nerve though. I'm not enjoying it at all.

Too easy for you, too hard for others. Depends on whether you have those retained those 12 year old reflexes or not.
What i'm googling around for is does act 3 become trivial if you do the optional content rather than mainlining it? I'm wondering if people after a challenge are better off dodging that side content until postgame (if you can?) or NG+.

It's long been a frustrating genre weakness of RPGs when being a completionist destroys the pacing, and early difficulty is seldom a good indicator of it.

It also depends on your weapon. If you level stats your weapon uses, it gives bonus stats for others. I use a defense luck on Gustave and the dude overcharges almost instantly and can tank hits.

i'm sorry but you're wrong

it's explained in the game, most of your power comes from your weapon stats

maxing agility and getting max speed will be mandatory soon enough ( if you play on expert )

if you put stats in everything but agility and luck you're going to have a bad time, no offense.

I'm doing just fine with the way I'm building... Each weapon has its own stat build and you work around that. There is no "right" way to do it, you're just one of those "can never be wrong" type of guys who thinks his opinion is superior to everyone else's.
