Real Talk: Actual issue, or skill issue?
Just wanting to understand from the other side. I currently parry only on highest difficulty, and feel the game is too easy after a few hours (yes, restarted Maelle fight and others a bunch, but hardly any now now that I know how everything works.) I've also stopped using attribute points.

What is the game like on easier settings? Does the QTE option do much? Curious.

I think the problem a lot of people have is trying to parry and not knowing the timing. Until you get the timing dodging is a little safer. It could also be that they are pushing their hardware beyond it's limits having frame drops and input lag.

I prefer it not be there myself, though that's me, I'm starting off on story mode, supposedly much less invasive this way.

Different audiences with differing gaming experiences.

I've noticed a lot, if not most of the people having no issues or saying that it's 'fine' have hundreds of hours in Dark Souls games are are generally action gamers in general; those of us who are here as pure turnbased JRPG/Tactics gamers who don't engage with that genre at all are having a hell of a hard time trying to engage in a new reflex system/skill expectation that we are unfamiliar with and really didn't want. (hence the auto QTE option for attacks in the menu - it's just a shame there isn't something similar for defending)

thats a lie right there i hate souls games you can not even compare this the slightest to them and yet here iam still able to dodge and parry just fine
Intense QTE and Chill Turn Based are FUNDAMENTALLY incompatible. You try to please both audience, you ended up pissing off both.

Congratulations? (I specifically mentioned other action games also, but just gloss over that I suppose.)
Now if you just copy and paste that to the dozens of threads already complaining about the system maybe you will singlehandedly shut us all down.

... or maybe there's still an underlining problem that is preventing some people from having fun.

Yeah having a lot of trouble with parry and dodge, the attacks in this game are weird and the timing is difficult to get. Some enemies will one-shot you if you cant parry or dodge too, even on middle difficulty.

They've pleased me... It's barely harder than something like Paper Mario, or Sea of Stars for a more recent example, anyway.

i don't think you can generalize it, at the end of the day is just a matter of learning the timming just like you would bother to learn any other game mechanic regardless of the genre. if i play a game i learn the mechanics.

i died 20 times for that first optional boss but then i learned that the timming of the parry is 1 second before contact, died 10 more times because of the variation in movesets, but once i learned the way the game parry system works and that there will be multiple moves that require trial and error i stopped struggling with it and now it's just second nature, a very, very fun second nature aspect of this game's combat because of the high risk high reward that comes with the counter

RPG gameplay is RPG gameplay.

Timed hits and timed defense don't belong in RPGs for the same reason that RPG meta progression doesn't belong in STG. It is fundamentally at odds with the core of the game concept.

If you could out-level and out-grind your woes in Mushihime Sama or Dodonpachi, then you devalue the game itself, insult the intelligence and skill of your players, and alienate the playerbase on all sides.

If you implemented a "slap" mechanic to chess, where in order to take your opponent's piece you must slap a certain area of the board before they can, then you immediately reduce the game to absolutely nothing.

Timed hits and QTEs do not belong in RPGs, and that's final.

Your experience does not equate to everyone elses experience.

Sea of Stars had those toggleable medallion thingies to significantly reduce the penalty/turn off the QTE prompts.
I had the auto-block on there.
