How are Expedition 33's RPG elements?
I'm mainly referring to the ability to role play your character's personality (I don't care about a paragon/renegade system, but can you play as a nice person or an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?)

Is there any story branching or different outcomes depending on your choices?

Thanks guys. I know its super early but not seen this discussed in any reviews so presume its a no on both questions but still good to know.

Dude, this is not roleplaying game. It's like Dark Souls with turn-based fighting.

This is what it looks like to me too but its definitely called an RPG everywhere. Still might bite the bullet but wanna know what my expectations are. Appreciate the reply

Charachter development is deeper than i though. It has "RPG" elements, but it´s no classic RPG. Great Game though.

Well, there are quests here that are similar in their non-obviousness to the quests in DS. So it's arpg in it's core. You don't make choices. Well, you do, but it's to fight or not to fight. Like in DS, you can bring something to npc, get the reward and then leave or kill them for more items. That's it.

To me an RPG is a game that has a leveling system with stats, skills and loot and this has all of them.

The game does have dialogue options but your only selecting topics and not choices. (So far from what I've played)

Thanks guys and I'm aware my definition of RPG is personal and not universal. I just love the aspect of playing a character and there's very few games that let you do it, was hoping this is one. But story still looks intriguing so i think i will get it.

This is a JRPG game so it’s a linear, cinematic without character creation game without much choice anywhere. In many ways it’s the exact opposite to western RPG games.

I grew up on JRPGs in the 90s but i have to admit i wish they weren't so rigid about certain things. I feel like FF Tactics gave me some choices but it could have been an illusion

The term "RPG" is just bastardized as hell anyways, unfortunately it's not really an indicator for roleplaying anymore with dialogue/story choices.

So far I've seen a total of one 'choice' that you can make, where you can either find something for a creature or attack it.

Do you call CoD and RPG? It has level, stats and unlock new gun loot as well.

Honestly I find the rpg term has been so watered down. Where the slightest trope of rpg = rpg. It like if this game is an rpg. Than almost every game is an rpg. If you look back at what the OG RPG was. It was to bring TTRPG to the PC.

When you look at a grand aspect of TTRPG. They all have 3 things in common.
1. Character Creation

2. Player Agency

3. Consequences That Change the World or Ending

Which means these 3 things much be in a game for their to be a True RPG. So far I not seen any of these elements in the game. Meaning this game is not an rpg.

So true.

Why do people keep bumping threads that haven't had any activity in like two weeks?

Should I have just made a post called "stop calling this game an rpg?"
