[Guide] Save transfer from GamePass to Steam

Go to the save folder from GamePass:

"C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Packages\KeplerInteractive.Expedition33_ymj30pw7xe604\SystemAppData\wgs\00090000044E48CB_000000000000000000000000697F9EC3"

The last folder from above could be in a different name on your PC.

After you open the folder above you should see a bunch of others folders. Open the most recent one and there should be two files called "container.X" and one made of letters and numbers - for example: "667B1F128A8F4BA6971EED5B330A062E"

(Edit: The proper file should be around 60kb)

Change the long string file name and extension to "EXPEDITION_0.sav"


Replace the file in the Steam save file location:

"C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Sandfall\Saved\SaveGames\76561198015267336" (again - numbers may be a bit different for you)

Enjoy. :)

PS: If you don't have any Steam save data yet - launch the game, skip cutscenes and leave the game so it'll be created.

PS2: After completing steps above your save data thumbnail in the main menu can show your old save from before the transfer. That doesn’t mean that the transfer was unsuccessful. It’ll get updated after the transferred save gets overwritten.

I would definitely like to be able to easily go from Steam -> XBox Series X for when I don't feel like playing at my computer.

okay I cannot figure out what exactly I'm changing because you say "folders" but these are clearly not folders they are just white page SAV files. I'm going into backup - and the only thing in there that says "container" is "savescontainer.sav" they are also not 60kb they are over 100kb. So just to be clear:

I'm going to sandfall>saved>savegames>76561197992914551>backup>

this is the last folder available and it has all my auto saves inside with dates and times but the files are all SAV files that go from 99kb to 120kb.

so my questions are:
A) are these the right files or am i rummaging around in the wrong stuff?
B) could i not just delete the most recent saves so that the save that's not F'd is the one that's loaded?
c) If I uninstalled the game and re-installed would that work or would that F-S-up even more?

Thanks, it worked! I used an achievement manager to manually unlock the gamepass achievements I earned too

Thanks worked for me!! I think the 100kb trick helped. You have to start a new game skip the cutscenes and leave after that. Then do the save game change and reload that same save file. It will automatically change in game.

So wait, where are you originally playing the game pass version? On your PC? I can’t seem to find those folders anywhere.

I started playing on Xbox console, now I installed it on my PC, but I can’t find the save files, those folders does not exist in my pc… please help!

You're all thinking too hard. You can just hide the save file in your prison pocket that way the Steam bouncers wont find it when they pat you down.

Then I found that in the save folder of Xbox version, the save that you want to transfer isn't always in the newest folder. You have to sort them by newest and find the one that is >100kb size. Some of the files are much smaller and they won't work.

You just need to try some other save files from the Game Pass location if the previous one didn't work.

Yo this worked 100% thank you. You just have to find the most recent biggest file size it doesnt need to be 100kb+ it might be around like 70 or 80KB

As many before, thank you for this guide. Played on gamepass a few hours and liked the game so much I decided to buy it. Managed to get the save transfer working and now continuing on Steam : )

If you've played awhile its gonna be at least around there, min was 212kb cause I'd played 20hrs. All you need is the newest one which for me was 2nd from the bottom and make sure you change the name to match the file you're replacing exactly then transfer it over and then load in on the game and then select load previous save and it'll work perfectly!

I had issues getting this to work too but I'm good now. It was worth it though so I could support the developers and actually buy the game.

My first mistake was uninstalling the Game Pass version before starting the transfer process. It deletes all of your save games when you do this. I had to reinstall it on Game Pass, let the cloud restore my saves, and go from there.

The 2nd mistake I made was thinking the top folder was the most recent save game. Since it reinstalled all of my save files, they all had the same date and time on them. After transferring the save file to the Steam save folder, I ended up importing a save file that was several hours behind so I had to delete it and try again.

The third mistake I made was sorting by date and thinking THEN the top save file was my most recent. I did this after reloading the game on Game Pass and letting it save again. NOPE. After that I got the incompatible version error. UGHHH.

My last attempt was when I picked the 2nd most recent time/dated folder and tried a third time. This time I once again got an older save but it was only a couple of minutes behind so I just replayed that section and moved on.

Pain in the ass but it works with a bit of effort.

I was playing it on gamepass but wanted to support the game, and now I can continue playing it
