Stop Obsessing Over Player Count – Clair Obscur Is a Gem

Everyone keeps clowning on the 50K player count, but let’s be real for a sec — player base numbers aren’t the full story, especially for a game that just dropped AND is available day one on Xbox Game Pass. A ton of people are playing without showing up on Steam stats.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is doing something bold with its aesthetic, worldbuilding, and gameplay. It’s not trying to be the next generic blockbuster — it’s carving its own lane. And honestly? That’s refreshing.

Not every great game needs to pull Elden Ring numbers to be valid. Games like this build word-of-mouth momentum over time. And with more updates, community support, and visibility, it'll get the love it deserves.

So instead of dunking on it, how about we give credit where it’s due? Player count doesn’t equal quality — and this one’s got the potential to be something special.

Well I mean, it's a single player game with regular saves and given how heavy some of the themes hit, I can see why people would play in short sessions no matter how good the combat is. Still reeling from the prologue personally >.>

Lords of the Fallen (2023) had a 40k player peak and 75 developers. This one has a 50k peak, likely to grow over the weekend, and 30 developers. Unless they spent a literal fortune on voice actors, the devs should be more than fine.

Game Pass on release is not a good metric, it's a fallback. That said, I also don't understand why gamers care so much. As someone who has been gaming for... 36 years now, most of the best and most challenging games I play have sub 5000 players; Hell sub 1000 players.

Probably because there are 2 back to back good rpgs to play, this game is in my back log, still playing oblivion lol.
