What's the secret to getting good at parry & dodge?
I don't understand how I can parry in soulslike games, and sekiro without an issue but then struggle in this.

EDIT: It's input lag on controllers. You guys were right! Tell everyone who complains to use a keyboard instead. I'm now landing everything, It's 100x easier on the keyboard. I play on game pass with a PS4 controller, and the lag is too much.

Some say there's input lag on controller and that it's gone on MK

Just learning new timings. Those games are also real time so you can just stand there being beaten like a rented mule that owes money until you get the timing. This turn-based J'RPG on the other hand... it's gonna take time.

I just go with my instinct and it works.
Don't read the animations too much. The frame is always just before you actually get hit.

Try mnk, worked for me. Was absolutely horrible on controller.

Thanks I will try that. I was using the controller. Cause there's no way this game feels harder than a rhythm game.

Sometimes the buttons just dont react to the input. Must be a bug.
Dont dodge or parry right before the hit though. The frame is weirdly off and before the animation reach you.
The key is to analyze and observe the patterns of each enemies' attacks. Once you know the timing of their strikes, then it is time to click the dodge or parry key. Practice is key.

How is trying FFXIV's Monk job going to help?

This could explain a lot. Maybe linked to steam input somehow ?

For most attacks: sound is the secret.

I am on game pass, so it's not steam input related.

I’m still learning but it feels to me that I need to press before getting hit. If a move has a big delay I need to wait for the moment that the enemy is making the final move. But again, just before getting hit.

YOOO GUYS IT REALLY IS INPUT LAG ON CONTROLLERS. WTF. I can parry everything on Mouse & keyboard, Dodging is easy now.

Get off controllers for combat. I'm sorry. But it's 100x easier.
