I grew up playing games rated higher than my age for sure and I'd like to think it's done me no harm. But everyone is different for sure!
Personally I'd say it's probably not wise to expose a 10yr old to Foul Language, but again, I was and it didn't seem to 'harm' me. I still grew up respectfully and didn't repeat it etc. The 'violence' can depend I guess, some kids shows have 'violence' in them etc. Maybe give it a go for yourself (2hr Steam Refund policy and all that) and see what you think.
Yeah I know it has the ESRB but that can be so varied....like BG3 I would allow, yes it has cussing but not excessive....Forspoken on the other hand she is cussing like every 3rd word. Thats why I am looking for actual player feedback if that makes sense.
Oh I already have it installed (free with gamepass) and the fiance and I are going to get it going after work...only variable is the child, might just have to lock her in the closet with a flashlight and bag of goldfish
I don't know if you can turn off the blood on the characters in game (the more damaged they are the bloodier they get) but there are definitely a few bloody scenes that might be too much. A character death in particular i'm thinking is a bit bloody. As well, there are many scenes and areas with a large amount of corpses that might be too much.
But, for language, it isn't very common! There are a few f-bombs but that is maybe 2-3 times in act 1? (which took me about 16 hours to get through) and only in emotional cut-scenes. The normal character banter and combat dialogue has almost no swearing, or none that stood out to me. Though, keep in mind most of the characters are around the age of 30 and are well written, so imagine how much adult friends of yours swear and how they act, and if your kid is mature enough to understand and handle that.
The violence is bloody and realistic(at least in cutscenes, in gameplay it's more usual fantasy stuff), and the themes are in general more mature and depressing than what a 10 year old can handle(and in general more emotional than many games). I had to take a short break after the prologue.
Nothing sexual found so far a few hours in, and funny enough the cussing feels more laid back as they do it all in French, randomly inserted in sentences where appropriate. Worst is your kid learns merde and putain a bit early.
There are a lot of scenes that are far more disturbing than the fights for a child though, including wandering around an area with what's practically a mountainous statue made out of impaled corpses etc.
Personally, I'd say it's too much for a child.
