The sharpening line is present twice, so use 'Find' under 'edit' to make sure you set both of them to 0, then set the file back to read-only once saved. It hasn't completely fixed the graininess, but it has absolutely made it more tolerable for now.
Updating DLSS to 310.2.1 with DLSS wrapper
Setting Anti-aliasing to Low
Setting Global illumination to Epic
DLSS on Quality
With these settings it looks good to me.
If you want to improve the image-quality, then google dlss-swapper. I'v noticed that that most games even now, still ship with old upscaler versions. Even though we have newer versions of dlss, fsr and xess.
You can use the programm to swap between any version of upscaler thats build into the game.
I did these too and it looks better for sure but it still doesn't look like proper 4K to me.
There is still some sort of upscaling or Blur that causes the image to look weird.
But it's better I agree with that.
Toggled all post processing options, and not much changed.
I hope this helps others. I had the same over sharpened look. Even the menu looked off. I found a fix for my setup.
For me the issue was running an Ultrawide monitor. The game has an FOV issue on Ultrawide. I did not notice tell I started talking to people and it was cutting off there heads.
After installing the fix for my aspect ratio, all graininess/sharpening went away.
Bonus, it also removed 30 fps cap in cutscenes.
File can be found here https://github.com/Lyall/ClairObscurFix?tab=readme-ov-file
Disables sharpening
turn off depth of field
turn off film grain (unless you like it)
set post processing to low
change it to quality 100% in the option thing i forget its name
turn off vignette (unless you like it)
This will make it look good without the 'weird' you mention
edit: if you have ultrawisde monitor you have to use the github mod to fix things otherwise it will look off
this works, thank you
The Shadows on the face from the hair are still kind of bloky and noisy but the overall look is so much better now as the ugly sharpness is gone and the image looks much cleaner.
funnily enough I use Reshade in most games and even here now to sharpen very slightly as it's a totally different way of sharpening if using a proper filter and looks very nice along the FakeHDR Filter in my opionin.
It helps to counter the blur in most games a bit and if done properly(!) only enhances and points out some nice details without messing up the whole image like the way of the sharpening this game uses by default.
While still some things like shadows should be improved, the game looks actually quite pretty now with this fix and the other ones mentioned before.
What are the thoughts of others here? Do you also find it better with the fix and which areas still need improvement?
This worked beautifully
For anyone playing on GamePass download the Steam version of this fix and just put the files in ..\Content\Sandfall\Binaries\WinGDK instead of Win64. Works like a charm.
Please and thank you
