Looking weird?
I don't know if there is an issue on my side but the game looks super weird to me.

I'm not making this thread to bash, I'm sincerely wondering if there is something wrong on my end or if anything can be done to improve the image quality.

For me it looks a bit like if the game is rendered at a very low resolution, then upscaled and on top an intense sharpening filter is added.

However it's making the image looking just weird as there are not enough texture information to sharpen the image properly so it just looks oversharpened. For example the hair looks very low quality and even a bit pixelated.

Just to be clear, I disabled already all the blur effects, though I double checked as even after disabling it, it kinda looks like there are some sort of post processing effects like it in place.

The resolution I'm using in fullscreen is 4k and in borderless window for some reason the game shows 8K resolution which I can't change even though my desktop resolution is 5120x2880. So that also seems to be off. But even with borderless it still looks similar..

Another issue is that I can't change resolution in fullscreen at all. Whenever I change it, it immediately reverts back to 4K

It's quite sad as when I started the game and checked the graphics menu I was so happy to see that the devs provide options to disable Chromatic aberration, Vignete, Motion Blur and Film grain.

Unfortunately that's still not always a given.
Only thing missing in that regard is a Depth of Field toggle.

However having options from the get go for the other effects is already a great thing.

So it's very unfortunate that now there is some upscaler or something else that's compromissing the image quality.

I am assuming you turned off the upscaler itself, right?
It doesn't have something to do with the upscalers. The problem exist with and without it.

If you are on Linux and use a steam deck client (bazzite console mode or something) don't forget to set SteamDeck=0 %command% otherwise it will look weird.

It has a very grainy low res look to it even at native 4K, I'm not a fan

Turn off all post processing settings
Doesn't make much difference and you can't turn it off, only put it on low

The game has a stupid oversharpening filter, it might be good for people playing on a TV from 2-3m away, but it's very bad for gaming on a monitor.

It's a DLAA bug, switch to dlss quality for now, should help
Igwanna 24. apr. kl. 8:53
it cant be a DLSS problem because i have an AMD 9070xt with no DLSS in options (only TSR and XeSS) andim having exactly the same issues.
When the game started I waslike "wtf is this in 720p?" I'm playing in 4k mind you, and tried every combination of upscaler, including anti-aliasing mode only, and it looks like ♥♥♥♥.

Try antialiasing in low, with dlss quality. This changes the visuals completely. I think it has to do with a bug in rendering when using the game antialiasing. Also download Dlss Swapper, and swapp the dlss version from 3.7.20 to 310.2.1
This game really looks weird. On top of that, it doesn’t support FSR, so for AMD graphics card users (myself included), it’s even worse. And you can’t completely disable upscalers either. The game probably looks the strangest during cutscenes. The characters are sharp, but everything in the background is kind of floating and it’s really obvious they’re "pasted in" like on a green screen, as if someone did it for the first time.

Has anyine experienced extreme popping when you start the expedition?

This helped a great deal:

Go to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Sandfall\Saved\Config\Windows (at least for the steam version of the game)

Create an Engine.ini file (just a TXT file named Engine.ini)

Put this in the file:

Code:

[SystemSettings]
r.MotionBlur.TargetFPS=0 ; adjusts the motion blur shutter speed to always match the framerate
r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=0 ; disables the default UE sharpening

Close the file and SET IT TO READ ONLY.

Hmm I tried it..I don't see that a huge difference but maybe it's slightly better.
Thanks in any case.

What's also a bit weird, despite having 60 fps the game still don't feels that smooth to me.
I may need to play a bit around more with the settings.

Also the game is quite taxing considering the current image quality..
