I know its unsupported, but what codecs do I need to install to get video support? Right now all it renders is some kind of test output.

Using Proton (Experimental or 9.02) through Steam works well without any need to install a video codec.

Same problem here on Archlinux, no cinematics. I had the same problem with Blue Prince, but I never encountered this problem in any other game.
Proton experimental or hotfix doesn't help.

Try this: steam://unlockh264/
Open a web browser, paste this into the address bar and press Enter. It should ask you if you want to open the link with the Steam application, click Yes.

Linux mint and I think I only installed the basic third party package for codecs. So nothing special. Works fine without forcing a proton version, so I guess it's experimental too.
